Arthur G. Pedreira, age 79, of Stratford, beloved husband of the late Adozinda Teixeira Pedreira, died peacefully on Sunday August 11, 2013 at Connecticut Hospice, Branford, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 28, 1934, he was a son of the late Manuel Gonsalves Pedreira and Maria Rosa Rua Pedreira. He came to the United States in 1960 settling in Bridgeport. A member of the Laborers Union 665, he was a former employee of Mark IV Construction and was a retired Superintendent for the City of Bridgeport Parks Department. Arthur was a long time member of the Vasco da Gama Club, where he was one of the founding members and assisted in the building of the club and was also a past president and served on many committees. Above all he was a loving father and grandfather who cared very deeply for the love of his family. He will be deeply missed. Survivors include his devoted son, Louis Pedreira and his wife Sonia of Stratford, three grandchildren, Louis C. Pedreira and Brandon Pedreira and Sandra Young and her husband Zack; a great granddaughter, Adriana Young, brothers, Adriano Pedreira and his wife Rosaria and Joao and Jose Pedreira all of Portugal, a sister, Palmira Maneca and her husband Tony of Naugatuck, nieces and nephews, Joe Pedreira, Victor Pedreira, Palmira Escaleira, Maria Lili Pedreira and Maria Rodrigues, as well as several additional nieces, nephews, and cousins in Portugal, Brazil and France. He was predeceased by several brothers and sisters. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Bridgeport, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in the St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday from 4- 8 p.m.
