Spiro Glenis Obituary

Spiro Glenis, 68, of Springfield, Ill., formerly of Oregon, Ill., passed away Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
Born Oct. 10, 1937, in Greece, he was the son of Nickolaos and Demetra (Stragalinos) Glenis.
Spiro was the owner and operator of the Silo and the Seven Seas restaurants in Oregon. He was a member of the St. George Greek Orthodox Church of DeKalb. Spiro enjoyed playing golf and cooking and loved visiting his homeland in Greece.
He is survived by four children, Nick Glenis of Rockford, Demi Glenis (Terry) Berg of Chatham, Ilias Glenis of Tucson, Ariz., and Suzanna Glenis of Rockford; six grandchildren, Nicole and Adam Berg, Kiki Glenis and Coritheos, Corzanos and Zannia Maxwell; four siblings, Barbara Stavrakas and Dena (Vasilios) Ioannis, both of Greece, Efstathia (Theodore) Kitsios of DeKalb and Kyriakos Glenis of Greece; a niece, Agni (Dean Arhos) Kitsios of Willowbrook; a nephew, Milto Kitsios of Spain; and several other nieces and nephews in Greece.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Petros Glenis.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in DeKalb, with Fr. Spyridon Kavadias officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb, with a Trisagion prayer service at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established for Spiro Glenis in care of Anderson Funeral Home Ltd., P.O. Box 605, 2011 S. Fourth St., DeKalb, IL 60115.
