Agnes M. Begaye

1953 - 2014

Agnes M. Begaye, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend was called home to our lord on Wednesday, June 4th, 2014 in Farmington. Agnes was born in Shiprock, on October 1, 1953 to Lucy Silentman and the late Tom Reed. She was preceded in death by her son, Jonathan Begaye, father Tom Reed and husbands; Henry Yazzie and Tom Begaye Sr. She is survived by her sons; Shawn Begaye; Tom Begaye Jr. and wife Tiffany. She also leaves behind three grandchildren; Navany, Nyvarius and Nyus. Agnes had 15 siblings and many nieces and nephews who she loved and adored very much. Agnes' maternal clan was Red Running into the Water clan and paternal clan was Under his Cover clan. Agnes grew up in Shiprock where she resided most of her life and later resided in the Rattle Snake area until the time of her death. Agnes enjoyed cooking, crafting, and baking. She loved to travel. She was an active member of the Native American Church.
She obtained several degrees and always encouraged her family to pursue education. In her career, she worked as a secretary, librarian and teacher in many areas within the educational system on the Navajo reservation. She had overwhelming generosity, a kind heart, beautiful prayers and teachings. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Services will be held at Bethel Christian Reform Church in Shiprock at 10 a.m. Agnes will be laid to rest at the Shiprock Community Cemetery and reception to follow at the Catholic Center in Shiprock from noon to 4 p.m.
