Cathy Eckstein Obituary

GREENVILLE - Cathy L. Eckstein, 47, of Greenville, went home to be with the Lord on Aug. 17, 2013.

Cathy was born on April 20, 1966, to William G. Tipton and Carolyn S. Tipton of Greenville.

In addition to her parents, Cathy is survived by her husband, Dennis; three children, Erica and Peter Jones of Wichita, Kan., Brandon C. Eckstein of Lima, Ohio, and Caitlyn Eckstein of Greenville; a granddaughter, Madelyn Jones; and a sister, Beth and Lonnie Beisner of Arcanum.

Cathy worked as an optician at Spectacle Shoppe in Greenville, was a teacher and music director at Greenville Baptist Academy, and a consultant with Mary Kay for over 10 years. She enjoyed helping people through all her occupations and looked for ways to enrich the lives of people. She and her husband attended Castine Church of the Brethren and were active in ministry there.

Cathy enjoyed playing the piano. She was a lover of life and was always the life of a party. Cathy had an infectious smile and laugh, and never met a stranger. She looked out for the interest of others and always had time for you if you were having a bad day. Her love for others came from her own relationship with Christ and her deep faith. Cathy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and the time she spent with family and friends was precious to her.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Castine Church of the Brethren with Rev. Gary Cloyd officiating.

The family will visit with friends on Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m., also at the church. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Darke County Cancer Society in honor of Cathy. Services entrusted to Braund Pope Funeral Home in New Madison. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.braundpope.com.

I will always remember Cathy as a compassionate person who always had an encouraging word and a hug if you were down...she was a great teacher and loved children. She took special care with students who were struggling by giving one on one guidance. i will never forget her and look forward to the day when we all meet again in heaven <3

I have some heart warming and fun memories of Cathy. She was bigger then life. The energy she possessed in life was felt at her funeral. What a testimony of Gods awesome power. I was one of so many, that can say my life was blessed and privilege to have known Cathy and to call her friend. May God continue to comfort the Eckstein family in the months ahead.

After the funeral, we sat and Marne asked me my favorite memory of you.. There were thousands of them, but you teaching Erica and I to do our first cartwheels in grandma and grampa's front yard with a huge smile on your face and a cheer in your voice for us to try will always be it. You continued to teach and cheer me on the rest of my life... Love you so much!

Cathy was a big part of my life as we grew up as neighbors going swimming, being in the band and chorus together (what a beautiful voice), double dating. She was always so happy when she played the piano and sung solos. We had so many good times laughing until we cried. She enriched my life with her friendship, thoughtfulnuss, strength, and love. You will always be in my heart forever Cathy. Thank you for being my friend!
