Bridget Winsor Obituary

Bridget Johnson Winsor, 57, lost her battle with bipolar disorder on July 25 th , 2017. Bridget grew up in Littleton and graduated from the University of Colorado in 1982 where she met her husband, John Winsor. They settled in Boulder in 1989. Bridget had a fierce dedication to the Boulder community. She was a founder of the Collage Children's Museum and spent her adult life in tireless service to many community-based organizations and schools. In 2002, Bridget and John traveled to Russia to adopt their sons, Harry and Charlie. She was the ultimate mom to her boys and all of their friends. Uniting her passion and experience for adventures in the outdoors with her positivity, laugh and empathy, she led them on epic adventures around the globe. She guided them with a deep passion for life, resilience and self-reliance instilling her core philosophy of paying attention to the world — being alert — instead of being afraid of it. Athletics played a central role in Bridget's life. She won a national tennis championship for Denver University in 1980, and then became a professional triathlete and runner. She was the Denver Athletic Club's Athlete of the Year in 1986. These sports lead her into the mountains as an ardent climber and skier. The ocean and surfing also fueled her, and she, John and her children lived intermittently in Sayulita, a small Mexican fishing village, for the past several years. While in Mexico, she helped found the Costa Verde International School. Foremost, Bridget was a mother, wife, sister and friend, loyal and loving to the end. Her fearlessness, sense of fun and bold, generous spirit are what those around her admired the most. Bridget believed deeply in giving back and, in every action, cutting a clear path for those that follow. She is survived by her husband, John, her sons, Harry and Charlie, her siblings Wally Johnson, Leslie Buck, Susie LaBonde and Mike Johnson and many nieces and nephews. We will celebrate Bridget's life on August 29 th , 5pm, at the home of Susan and Tim Borst, 7723 Oxford Road, Longmont, CO 80503. More details about the Celebration of Life are available on Bridget's Facebook page. Family and friends will also join hands this winter in a Paddle Out Ceremony for Bridget in Sayulita, Mexico. Mental illness is a disease that affects many people in our community, yet it is not one that defined Bridget or anyone else who is suffering. To help clarify the path for those dealing with the disease, Bridget's family has established the Bridget Winsor Memorial Fund with the help of Boulder Community Health Foundation and the Mental Health Endowment. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Bridget's memory to The Bridget Winsor Memorial Fund: www.bch.org/bridgetwinsormemorial.

Love Bridget's authenticity. Enjoyed our time together at Sunshine when the boys were in preschool together.

Bridget was a cousin I barely knew. Her mother Aunt Susie and my father Joseph Burns were brother and sister.
I just learned of her passing. Even though I hadnt seen her for maybe 50 years, I am saddened.
My sincere condolences. David Burns

My thoughts and prayers are with Harry and Charlie. Bridget was devoted to her boys. She was an inspiration to all and the world has suffered a terrible loss with her passing. While I did not know Bridget for long she will be deeply missed.

All of us "Camozzi kids" and mom are deeply saddened to hear of our dear and fun Bow Mar friend's death. Bridget and I were second in state for tennis when we were 11 or so (thanks to Bridget's tennis skills- not mine).
It's comforting to know that Harry and Susie were there to welcomed her with open arms in heaven. Thinking of all of Bridget's brothers and sisters and extended families.

Oh my a bright light has dimmed in our lives. Bridget's smile and her endless buoyancy will live long in my memory. I am grateful for the time shared with her at Collage Children's Museum where her dedication, enthusiasm and leadership fueled everyone else around her leading us to accomplish so much for so many children and families in Boulder County.

What a bright shining life to all who were blessed to know BJ... 40 years ago we were busy planning our joint 18th bday party before we all parted off to college...Sunshine is all that comes to mind when I think of sweet Bridget!

So sorry to hear, Jon & family. I hadn't seen you two around town in awhile, but have very fond memories of our "Denver days". Warmest thoughts in this difficult time...
