Hard to believe it´s been 11 years since Cindy passed! I think of her all the time. I really miss stopping by the Cub Market and hanging out in the back with her for long chats full of laughter and fun! That was if I could ever catch her without 3 zillion things to do, all at once. One of the hardest working people I ever met, she was also a great person and will forever be sorely missed!

Thinking of Cindy today, although the last time I saw her was many years ago. Around 1990-1994, I lived (along with my wife at that time, Julia) on West 72nd Street in New York City, and (as dog-lovers) we dined frequently at a restaurant called Phoebe's, named for the owner's Golden Retriever. It was always a pleasure to see Cindy there at Phoebe's, and as we all became friends, Julia and I. enjoyed attending one of Dark Horse Theatre's first productions, several short plays with a cast that included Andrew McCarthy. My condolences to all her friends and family. She is missed.

I met Cindy as a guest at The Twin Gables. I loved going there and was so satisfied as a guest. Frederick and Cindy were so gracious. I will always remember being there. I'm lucky to have known them.

Cindy time has a way of catching up and in that sense of time there exists no time only love. Such conversations, such deep secrets, such laughter we shared . Faith, fortitude and courage. Thank you for your love and care it was a true honor knowing you. You are a beacon of light now and have the angels as friends for sure and talk to everyone! I only found out about your passing and extend love and peace to your family here on earth. May we meet again!

Cindy, we miss you more than you would ever imagine.

I miss Cindy very much. Above all, she knew the meaning of friendship! She was the type of person who would work all day at the store, and drop everything to run and help someone in need! And everyone in Bearsville and Woodstock loved her, and relied on her humor and wit to help us through the day. She was the hardest worker and most professional person I have ever met. I would often stop and say "I don't know how you do it all"... We all love you Cindy, and all who knew you miss you! Love, Jeffrey

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Sandmann and Girls,
I was so saddened and heartbroken to hear of the sudden loss of the beautiful girl Cindy. As my dear high school classmate and close friend, I have such fond and wonderful memories of those great years that we spent together. I would spend the night at your home and have the best time hanging around Mt. Adams with Cindy. I remember doing the "steps" at Immaculata Church with Cindy, during Lent. Then she would spend the night at my house because I had some cute brothers. We had a lot of fun and laughs growing up. Someone wrote how she would say hello and see how things were, then off to something else so quickly. I had to laugh, to think she had not change much. I haven't seen Cindy in many years, but I still hold a place in my heart for her. This is our 40th year high school class reunion this year, and Cindy will surely be missed. We will pray for her at St. Ursula Academy.

Pat, Lou, Donna, Kathy, Pattie, Lori and Becky. I just heard the news of Cindy's passing today. Mom found out yesterday from Rhea. I was shocked. I will always remember the little girl who grew up next door to me on St. Gregory St. I always had fun helping your Aunt Phyllis babysit for all of you. Now Cindy is with Phyllis in heaven. My prayers for all of you. Love, Karen

We were shocked and deeply saddened to here of Cindy's passing. She was such a delightful person. We stopped in the Cub nearly every weekend and always looked forward to seeing Cindy's smiling face. She was so warm and friendly and took such an interest in everyone. It was a pleasure to know you Cindy. Frederic, you have our deepest sympathies.

I am so shocked and saddened to hear the news. Cindy always took a minute to connect and ask me about my life- my first house, first vacation rental....we were both trying to find a way out of our fashion and prop styling businesses, respectively. And spent many an afternoon scheming about how this could be done. Stop the travel and the back and forth. Peace on your journey Cindy. You're free now. My deepest condolences to you Fredric. It's unbelievable. Really. Love and light to you.

Hi, another Pomander neighbor here. So fine to hear how much she was loved and liked up in Woodstock to. She was always coming and going here, but always stopped to chat, and find out how everyone was doing - and then zoom off to what seemed just a non-stop life. I suspect she got more done, and touched more people than I could manage in a hundred years. Still -- too brief. Too brief.
Anything we can do down here, please just let us know.

I will miss Cindy's shining spirit, intelligence and warmth. I
always left feeling better, after a visit with her at the Cub. In the middle of the daily challenge of running the market, she had the gift of giving her attention to each person who came in. I send deepest condolences to her family, and especially to Frederic, who has always felt like a friend. I am thinking of you daily, and sending prayers and comfort to you.

I lived in Bearsville for 2 years, and Cindy always made me (and my dog) feel so taken care of. The woods can be a lonely place, and she was one of those people who just made you feel at home. There were many nights when only Cindy's chicken pot pies would do. I'm heartbroken for her husband and all her colleagues and friends. I'll think of her every time I think of Woodstock. And I just know heaven is full of Cavaliers...

I lit a candle for Cindy in my Bearsville window, 1/2 mile away, when I heard that she died. It was impossible...I kept repeating through my tears. She and Frederic brought to our tiny town a fine little market where we became spoiled by a beautiful blonde who called us by name and always asked about our various interests or work. She made the Cub Market feel like the porch light that would always be on in our darkest days. She was gracious and lovely. I hold Frederic in my heart. It is a pain like no other - to lose your mate. It will hurt more than you can imagine for longer than you could believe. To Frederic, Cindy's family, and all who loved her - I am so very sorry for your profound loss.

February 18, 2014

My heart goes out to Frederic, and to the Sandmann family. Cindy's generous spirit loomed large in her community. Her wall-to-wall smile brightened many a dark day, as she sincerely shared in the countless lives who passed through the Cub Market. Industrious beyond compare, she always took a moment to converse, laugh and share your day = as enthusiastic about 'your' life as she was about her own. She knew each customer's likes and happily announced new products to our delight. Cindy enjoyed successes amidst the most cosmopolitan of backdrops; yet managed to retain her down-to-earth values. My deepest condolences to Frederic, and to her family.

Cindy was one of those undercover angels! I chatted over the years to her in the Cub Market. She was such a giving and gorgeous spirit, and i think she made all sorts of connections for all of us. Many times she helped me with work. Always she was there with a smile and an open heart. Dear Cindy, you did good in this world and may you inspire us all.....

Mr & Mrs Sandmann, Donna, Cathy, Patty, Nancy, Lori & Becky,

We are both so saddened to hear about Cindy. So many long ago memories have brought smiles and tears to the surface.
I remember like it was yesterday sitting in Cindy's room talking about her plans to go into modeling in NYC which took her to so many exotic and wonderful places. She was always so determined and to me very brave to step out into the
world and follow her dreams.
Tom spent so many memorable times with all of you. Whenever we hear Earth Wind & Fire "Fantacy" we are taken back to your home & family on St Gregory.

Our thoughts prayers and love are with you all.

With loving memories of Cindy,

I first met Cindy on July 4, 1968. She was working for her Dad at Avoca Park. We went to grade school together for 2 years at Holy Cross in Mt. Adams. We were one big family in Mt. Adams. My Dad and Lou were great friends.

I saw Cindy last before I left for the Marine Corps in 1974. I heard she did some modeling overseas and I thought I saw a billboard of her while I was stationed in Japan.

Lou and Pat, my thoughts and prayers go out to you. You raised a fine daughter. Remember John 14.

Cindy, may you rest in peace.

Sincerely, Jack

Dear Aunt Pat, Uncle Lou, Donna, Kathy, Patty, Nancy, Lori and Becky,
Cindy will be greatly missed. She always inspired others. I remember being 10 years old riding with Cindy in her VW Bug through Mt. Lookout Square after stopping for UDF ice cream. Cindy asked me about my future aspirations. I told her I wanted to become a pro athlete. Cindy encouraged me to follow my dreams. I admire Cindy for her focus and her determination in following her dreams and being successful. When I think of Cindy, I will always see her big smile and pretty face. Cindy I love you, you were always top shelf.

Cindy was a pure Angel walking among us. I met her first in 2004 when I walked into the Woodstock Laundry across from the Library. I was there because someone told me the people at the Laundry had an apartment for rent. They were not there but this Cute Blond was looking at me with a odd look on her face and doing her wash. She asked me who I was looking for? Told her why I was there and she said "I think you need to rent my Cottage" I thought OK??? She told me she owned Twin Gables and to meet her there at 2 PM. I laughed because I was staying at Twin Gables. I rented that house and she became one of my best friends in Woodstock. I will always remember enjoying Thanksgivings at Twin Gables with her and her family. I will never forget her smile and kindness.

My deepest sympathies for all that knew Cindy. In all of my years stopping in at the Cub Market, I was always greeted with a cheerful 'hello', kindness and a genuine concern about the little things in my life. A cup of coffee and the groceries collected never seemed to be a chore in the delightful, cozy, environment that Cindy, Fred, Diana, Thelma, Maria, Arnie and all of the hard working souls make happen on a daily basis. I will always think of The Cub as Cindy's Place and will continue to feel her kind, giving spirit whenever near the Cub Market. Cindy, you are missed by so many, MANY people in our tiny community!!

Having just received this news, my heart aches. Cindy was such a kind soul who I met in California in the early eighties and she became a dear friend. She gave me my baby shower and I am looking at the photo of her and my son together which still sits in his room now nineteen years later. She was one of the hardest working women I ever knew and was always ready to help a friend. Our heartfelt prayers to the family and to Frederik. Cindy will be so very missed and I am grateful for the wonderful, fun times that we shared and for being able to call her my friend. May God Bless you Cindy... you will always be in our hearts....

Uncle Lou and Aunt Pat my heartfelt sympathy in your loss. Those two and a half years when my brothers and your seven daughters had to live together at 1129 St. Gregory Street on our Mt. Adams are a priceless memory. Cindy helping me with my math so Sister Teresina would not get mad at my progress thought I forgot? Or that Christmas of 1969 defending the Sandmann Castle from the Iron Horsemen. Never forget the time Cindy and Donna got us together and we put on that play for Uncle Frank and Aunt Alice for Thanksgiving. Cindy was destined then for those "Broadway Lights". Cindy I always respected you for your courage and commitment to follow your dream. You were a gracious leader, unselfish sister, patient cousin, loving daughter and faithful wife. Tonight when I go outside and gaze upon Orion's Belt I will see your star shining brightly along with all our dearly departed family. Love Steve...
