Raymond Murphy Obituary

Raymond Murphy KINGSTON - Raymond Murphy, 63, of Fair Street, Kingston died Thursday July 17, 2014 at home. Born May 19, 1951 in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of the late Marvin R. Murphy and Ethel (Perkins) Murphy. Ray loved sports and music. He was an excellent swimmer and diver who spent much of his youth as a lifeguard. Additionally, Ray played baseball; once pitching a one-hitter in his high school’s playoff quest for a state title. He was a well-liked and respected JV Football coach in the same school district; Essex Jct., Vt. A collector of radios; Ray could name most of the “oldies” after hearing just a few notes. He would then name the singer and even the label they recorded on! Ray spent the last seventeen years living in Kingston. His many friends and family will long remember his quick wit, positive attitude and wonderful smile. He is survived by brothers; Richard Murphy of Middlebury, Vt., Kevin Murphy of East Fairfield, Vt., sister; Kathleen Thibault and her husband Robert of Highland, sister-in-law; Constance Murphy of Essex Jct., Vt., longtime family friend Kathy Cross of Waterville, Vt. as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation and memorial arrangements are under the guidance of the Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home, Inc. 27 Smith Avenue, Kingston. www.jvleahyfh.com. A graveside memorial service will take place Friday August 1st in Highland Cemetery; 199 Vineyard Avenue (Rt. 44/55), Highland N.Y. at 2 p.m. Family will gather at Holy Trinity Parish Hall; Lower Grand Avenue and Wilcox Avenue in Highland following the memorial. No flowers please; expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers may be made to Gateway Community Industries: 137 N. Chestnut Street New Paltz, N.Y. 12561

I will miss you Ray. You were a gentle sweet man. I think I was the last person you spoke with. As usual we had a few laughs and enjoyed the beautiful day. Will miss making treats for you. rest in peace my dear friend.
