Anthony Fiacchino Obituary

Anthony D. Fiacchino of Addison for 37 years Funeral services for Anthony D. Fiacchino, 80, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, at St. Philip the Apostle Church in Addison. Interment will be private in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, at Humes Funeral Home, 320 W. Lake St., Addison. Born Sept. 2, 1925, in Chicago, he passed away peacefully Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, in Bensenville, after a struggle with the effects of a stroke three years prior. Tony fought long and hard with his disabilities that prevented him from the celebrated and productive life he had lead. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. Anthony was born to Vito and Theresa D. Fiacchino and grew up on Marshfield and Taylor in Chicago. He graduated in 1943 from Crain High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Italy France and Germany. He worked as a truck man for Wonder Bread. Before entering the sales field, he joined the Prudential Insurance Company and in his 40 years with Prudential, Tony won many career winning awards and broke numerous sales records. At Prudential he met his lifelong friends, Don Slovin and Bruno Pinkos. However, Anthony was more than his career with Prudential; he had a zest for life that never ended. Tony was also known as "Buttons the Clown" to many at the Children's Hospital, Shriners and the National Associations of Down Syndrome. He gave so much of himself to many. Upon his retirement, he became a volunteer extraordinaire. He worked for St. Philips the Apostle Church as an usher, choir member and extra-ordinary minister. He brought Communion to the homebound and hospitalized members of the church. Additionally, he initiated the ice cream social at St. Philips which is a repeated and constant fun for all. He also headed and participated in this event for many years. He was a member of the Italians of American Descent. In his community, he was a member of the Addison VFW Post 7446. He served as the Poppy chairman, raising over $9000 in the first year and continued that success for many years. He also served as VOID (Voice of Democracy) chairman, awarding scholarships to high school students. In his community, he volunteered his time for the Village of Addison and was chairman of the Historical Society of Addison. He worked tirelessly for State Rep. Lee Daniels and Cong. Henry Hyde, volunteering for job fair charity events and assisting with their campaigns. Tony was noted for many wonderful things all the years of his life; but providing his family with love, joy and laughter was his legacy. His family will miss their father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and most of all, their dear friend. Anthony is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lucille (nee Mazzuca); children, Carol Lieggi, Tony (Sandy) Fiacchino, Janice (Tom) Ford, Vito Fiacchino and Millie (Phil) Heinz of Michigan; siblings, John (Lil) Fiacchino, Joe (Mary) Fiacchino and Rose (John) Vargo; his grandchildren, Zina (Fernando) Santos, Christopher Lieggi and Jolene Fiscella, Melissa (Jason) Thomas of Syracuse, N.Y., Dena Fiacchino also of Syracuse, Anthony (Melissa) Fiacchino, Gina Fiacchino, Katie Brus, Alan Brus, Tracy (Nick) Rabe, Katie Ford, Adam Ford, Jacob, Andrew and Conner Heinz of Michigan; and great-grandchildren, Mico and Isabel Santos, Lexi, Grace and Jackson Thomas, Chloe Fiacchino, and Ayden and Gavin Rabe. When I followed my dad, Tom Harrington, into the insurance business, Tony was my LUTC instructor. My dad, who was also an LUTC instructor, told me Tony was a great teacher. He was indeed a wonderful man and by his example taught much more than insurance. Our condolances to his family,

We both worked with Tony at Prudential and will always remember his good nature and him always going out of his way to be helpful and kind to everyone. We all lost a really good person!

I have worked with Tony on many different occasions at St. Philip's church. Most importantly we brought holy communion to the sick at the hospital. We both brought holy communion to the home bound and filled in for each other. When Tony got sick, I brought him holy communion at home and then at the nursing home. I will miss him very much, however, I plan to stay close to Lou and keep her busy. Lou, I love you very much, you are like a sister to me. God keep you and your entire family safe and blessed always. Love ya, Gail

We will always remember Tony's sense of humor and how he was always ready to fill in at the ALS Mammoth Music Mart when needed. A real gem of a man who will be sorely missed by all who were priviledged to know him.

Tony was a wonderful human being who gave so much to everyone- especially the ALS community in honor of his brother Joe.

We appreciate all the years he spent volunteering at the Mammoth Music Mart and in organizing Tag Days in Addison along with everthing else he did to promote awareness and raise funds for ALS.

His cheerful smile and positive approach to life will be missed by everyone who knew him.

We are so grateful that we were among those to have been touched by Tony.

Our thoughts are with his family.

As a child I remember him as Buttons the Clown. Later as an adult I was able to work with him.

He was always trying to make you laugh but at the same time he was trying to pass on his knowledge.

Tony you will be missed.

Uncle Tony aka Buttons The Clown will be greatly missed. He always knew how to make us laugh and smile when we were kids. We might not have been family through blood, but we were family through our hearts and minds. I will forever be his Micalina.

Lucille and family you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Love always and forever

Mr. Fiacchino was my next door neighbor for my entire childhood. He brought so much joy to the Klimt family, and treated all us girls like we were his own daughters. We all loved him very much and will miss him. He will always have a special place in our hearts. Carole
