John Abbotts, Submarine shipmate and admirer
May 31, 2025
Please pardon my memories at this late date. My sincere sympathy and condolences to his family and friends. Jack Brons was the Executive Officer on the USS Jack, my second submarine "electric boat." I never called him by his first name; we addressed him as XO to respect the position. He was a role model: the most professional, most decent, and most supportive XO and that I ever encountered. He had spent his submarine career with "fast attack" boats, once telling the wardroom that boring 4 knot holes in the ocean was not his idea of adventure [which is what my first boat did, and why I requested duty on a fast attack]. When he addressed the crew about less than perfect performance, one had the feeling that it hurt him more than any crew member. His passing is a loss for all.

Dear Marianne
saddened to hear of your father's passing.
familiar with the breed of men from the boat school and submarine service as I was a navy wife and we were stationed in charleston on the Chivo and then the nuke john Marshall.
They aare uniquely rained and disciplined people and i am sure he and your mom instilled
those qualities in you. No doubt you made him proud.
