Bob is survived by his wife, Marjorie Ellen Chasteen; daughter, Kimberly Ann Chasteen and her spouse David Douglas Boyd, Jr.; son, Michael Robert Chasteen and his spouse Janie C Sledd; daughter, Amanda Chasteen Nesmith and her spouse, Douglas Chamberlain Nesmith; grandchildren, David Thomas Chasteen-Boyd, Brenna Leigh Chasteen-Boyd, Jackson Thomas Nesmith, Tyler Malone Nesmith and Zachary Wayne Nesmith; his sister, Barbara Jane Lebeck and her spouse, Kenneth Warren Lebeck; nephew Brian Lebeck and niece Heather Nettleingham.
His celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday, November 23, 2019, 11:00am at Amory Funeral Home in Yorktown, VA. See https://amoryfuneralhome.com/obituaries/ for full obituary and service schedule.

Dad,
It's been five years and it still gets hard to breathe when I let myself wallow in the grief. There have been so many times over these years that I have wanted to talk to you, wanted to share an accomplishment, or ask you something. There is a hole here that will never fill. We all miss you and I really wish you were here to see what your grandsons are doing and the men that they are becoming.

My sincerest condolences to the Chasteen family for the loss of a father, husband and grandfather! Bob was the OIC of the Mildet when I was assigned to the USNS Waccamaw and it was a pleasure to serve with him! I was an ET1 at the time. Later in my career I was commissioned as a LDO (Electronics) and always considered Bob a foremost example of how an officer should take care of his crew. Darryl Girtz, Cdr, USN (ret)
