Ruth Varn Obituary

On August 23rd, Ruth Kelly Varn at last joined her beloved husband, Fred. Mom was born on August 22, 1926 and grew up in Bradenton, FL., marrying Fred Varn in 1949. She was a proud military wife, juggling five children and 12 different duty stations over 20 years. In 1968, they retired to St. Petersburg, FL. Mom was active with local politics and helping at the Sun n' Fun Fly-in. After Dad passed in 2013, she moved to Newport News, Virginia to be closer to her daughters, Linda Dellinger and Theresa Cansler. Her greatest joy was always her five children and their spouses (Doug and Janet, Linda and David, John and Donna, Tom and Gayle, and Theresa), 13 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Her family would like to thank Grace Hospice and the staff of The Hidenwood, who always treated her with patience and respect, and Charlene Bright, who started off as a helper for Mom and became a member of our family.

I am sure none of us will ever forget Ruth... A true southern lady and good friend. I miss her so much! Think of her often, especially when I see news of Albert Whitted Airport!

Aunt Ruth was a fun, caring person who always had time to listen to me. What fun we had with Uncle Fred and many years of good visits, especially when I moved to St. Pete. I will always miss the visits to their Housr.

Ruth was a charming, intelligent and dedicated lady. We along with a few others developed and produced the annual air show at Albert Whitted for several years. She was an effective,. determined and pleasant lady to work with. I appreciate having known her and been her friend.
Rest In Peace Ruth.

Ruth was truly a southern lady, and also a force of nature! A valued member of our Lunch Bunch writing group, she would often have us go to Munch's for lunch before heading over to her house for meetings. A superb writer, she wrote of the fascinating experiences Fred had during WWII, as well as all of the other adventures they had. I feel blessed to have been able to call her my friend.
My prayers are with the family, as you begin to cope with the loss of the physical Ruth. You have never really "lost"her, as she will always live in your hearts. She has merely gone on ahead of you.
