Nina COSGROVE Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Nina "Susie" Parsons Henderson Cosgrove, 87, of Williamsburg, passed away on July 21, 2010.
Nina attended college at William and Mary, class of '45, and that was where she was given her nickname by her roommate, who said she looked like a 'Susie'. During the war years, Nina left college to become a model for the John Robert Powers Modeling Agency in New York. However, she stayed in touch with many of her classmates and the Williamsburg community through the years, attending class reunions with her husband, Cliff.
Nina and Cliff lived in several different states through the years. She had an antique shop in Rumson, N.J., and she and Cliff managed to do a little 'antiquing' everywhere they went.
Nina also sold real estate in Lake Forest, IL and was part of the 'Million Dollar' club.
Before her return to the Williamsburg area, Nina was a resident of Yarmouthport, Mass., for many years. Nina was renowned for her portraits and landscapes and had an art studio, Salt Acres, where she spent many happy hours. She also participated in local art shows and received many awards for her works.
Nina also liked writing poems and often included one in her hand-crafted greeting cards that she liked to make for her friends and family. Many of her cards featured animals, with her favorites being the Persian cats she loved.
While a resident of the Williamsburg Landings, Nina created many artistic and poetic materials for the house newspaper, The Tatler. Nina also enjoyed participating in 'Minds Alive' and looked forward to her weekly bridge games. She was an avid Scrabble player and when her daughter or grandchildren came to visit they were invited to play a game that she often won!
Nina was preceded in death by her husband, John Clifford "Cliff" Cosgrove; and her daughter, Elizabeth Henderson Cosgrove Smith.
She is survived by her daughter, Terri Henderson Kelley and her husband, Keith, of Salem, N.Y.; grandsons, Nathaniel F. Kelley of Latham, N.Y., Daniel M. Kelley and his wife, Jennifer, of Gahanna, Ohio; granddaughters, Corinne, Haley, and Mollie Smith of Iamsville, Md.; cousin, Robert A. McGregor, of Williamsburg, Va.; and nephew by marriage, John Henderson of Yarmouth, Mass.
A memorial service will be held at Williamsburg Landing, 5700 Williamsburg Landing Drive on Thursday, July 29, at 11a.m. A second memorial service will also be held in the spring at Woodside Cemetery in Yarmouthport, Mass., for her many friends from that area.
Arrangements are entrusted to Nelsen Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Heritage Humane Society, 430 Waller Mill Rd., Williamsburg, VA 23185. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Terry and the family. Nina was always such a warm and caring person and we had lots of fun with her and uncle Cliff over the last 50 years. She left an indelible impression of her warmth, love and talents over years in our memories, in her artwork (see childhood portrait of Johnny and me) and with her thoughtful cards of beauty. As my brother, John said, " her passing represents an end of an era for the family and friends she touched". Perhaps we can see you all and take part in the celebration of her life in Cape Cod next Spring.

In loving remembrance of Aunt Nina,

Mark and Micki Henderson
Marietta, GA
