Richard Lowman Obituary

YORKTOWN - Richard Whitmore 'Dick' Lowman, 63, passed away at home on Sunday, April 4, 2004. Mr. Lowman was a native of Winston-Salem, N.C., and a former resident of Virginia Beach, Va., before moving to Yorktown in 1992. He served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam and was a Bronze Star recipient and retired in 1983 as a LCDR after 21 years of service. After retirement he worked for the Radiological Affairs Support Office, Naval Weapon Station, Yorktown. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed sports and spending time with his grandchildren. He was active with the Aragona-Pembroke Little League and American Legion Baseball. Mr. Lowman was preceded in death by his father, Richard Cook Lowman, and a daughter, Jennifer Lowman, and is survived by his wife, Laura Lowman; his mother, Frances Lowman of Pocono Pines, Pa.; a sister, Frances Whipple of Pocono Pines, Pa.; his children, Richard Lowman and his wife, Christine, of Virginia Beach, Kristen Pine and her husband, Christopher, of Norfolk, Anthony Lowman and his wife, Laura, of Wallingford, Pa., Jennifer Bonham and her husband, Kenneth, of Yorktown, Jeffery Lowman and Thorpe Miller, both of Yorktown; nine grandchildren, Alaura, Wyatt, Keegan, Zoe, Madison, Hannah, Makenna, Julia and Andrew. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 8, in The Nelson Chapel Naval Weapons Station, Yorktown, by Chaplain David Cromer. Burial will follow with full military honors in Veterans Memorial Gardens, Hampton. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, in Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Virginia Prostate Center, P.O. Box 5, Norfolk, VA 23501.
