George Wilson Obituary

George Allan Wilson

Lake Winola, PA - George Allan Wilson, 78, of Lake Winola, PA passed away peacefully on Saturday April 3, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Elizabeth, NJ on April 2, 1943 to the late James and Virginia (Burton) Wilson, George graduated from Sparta High School Class of 1961. He earned his bachelor's degree from Montclair State College in 1965, his Master's from Seton Hall University in 1967 and his Doctorate from the University of Connecticut in 1969. George served as a Teacher and Administrator in Parsippany, NJ, Assistant Superintendent at the Chittenden South Supervisory School District in Shelburne, VT, Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent at Hopatcong Borough Schools and Superintendent at Sussex County Vocational Technical School in Sparta, NJ.

Survivors include his loving wife Grace Wilson (nee O'Donnell), children Julie Wilson and her partner Charles Johnson and David Wilson and his wife Beth Wilson, Grandchildren Griffin, Nolan and Grace Waldron, sister Joan Moreau (nee Wilson) and cousins Les Swalm and his wife Susan Swalm and Carol Offerman.

However you knew him: George/Dad/Pop, we know he brought joy and comfort to your life. He loved the outdoors, especially boating and flower gardening. He really loved dogs and they loved him back. But most of all, he loved his family. He was married for 56 years to his sweet Gracie. He was a man ahead of his time; never afraid to show his feelings. Sensitive and smart and sweet and tough. Though he struggled with injuries and health, he committed himself to providing a life and setting an example for his grandchildren, gleefully being "Pop" and furnishing stability and love to another generation. We are thankful he was ours. We are glad he is at peace. And we promise to share his giving spirit and loving kindness as a tribute to him and his life. We love you Pop.

George's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Andrew Kaufman and to the wonderful staff at Atlantic Home Health and Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice.

George's Life Celebration will include a memorial gathering on Saturday April 17, 2021 from 1:00 - 4:00 PM at the Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. Mr. Wilson was my 8th and 9th grade science teacher at Brooklawn Junior High. An excellent teacher, he set very high standards and expectations for his students. My love of science was fostered there and I went on to become a biology teacher and educational administrator. I’m sorry I never got to tell him that. It was very nice to read about his life. My thoughts are with his family.

George, the dearest of men, was a wonderful story teller, a good listener, humble and kind. I first knew him in our elementary school days in Byram, he was the tall, handsome, ever pleasant upper class man in my brother Jack's class (1957). I had an unspoken crush on George in those days.
In 2001, their 8th grade Byram class had a 50th reunion and I held a party afterwards for my brother and friends at my home on Swartswood Lake.
And there, as a former educator myself, it was wonderful to meet George, the educator (retired) and his lovely wife, Grace and to have had such enlightened conversations with both of them.
I am ever grateful for getting to know, however briefly, the man that my "first crush" became. My sincere sympathies are extended to Grace and her family in the loss of such a dear and memorable man.
Fondly, Pat Grover Raimondo
