Robert James Arnold, of Lakewood, died peacefully Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009. He was the husband of Anne Haviland. Mr. Arnold, the son of the late Henry James and Lillian Marioner Arnold, was born April 1, 1929 in Swampscott, Mass. He was a graduate of Beverly High School in Beverly Mass. and Boston College, Chestnut Hill, Mass. He served in the Navy from 1946-1948. Mr. Arnold received his masters degree from the Harvard Business School of Administration in 1955. Following graduation from HBS, he ventured to New York City to join Manufactures Trust Company. Within the year, Mr. Arnold became one of the youngest national loan officers covering the Southwest. In 1958, he joined the controllers staff of TIME INC. After two years, he was assigned to a subsidiary, Time-Life Broadcast. As business manager, Mr. Arnold became deeply involved in domestic and international radio, television and cable operations. It was an opportunity to see a lot of this country and the rest of the world. In 2001, he retired to a gated golf community.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Anne Haviland; a son, Keith Chadwick and his wife Allison of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; his daughter, Kerin (Arnold) Beaton and her husband Kenneth of Clifton Park, N.Y.; and a daughter, Lisa Anne (Arnold) Acosta of Manahawkin. He is survived by four grandchildren, his great joy. Kristin Anne Acost, Georgia Watson Arnold, Ginger Haviland Arnold, and Jackson James Chadwick Arnold.
Friends are invited to gather from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23 at D'Elia Funeral Home, Route 70 and Vermont Avenue, Lakewood. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24 at St. Mary of the Lake R.C. Church, 43 Madison Ave., Lakewood. Burial will be private at the wishes of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Van Dyke Hospice Program, 99 Highway 37 West, Toms River, NJ 08755.
