Peggy Christine Bounville, a longtime Fairfield resident, was peacefully ushered into the glorious presence of God on May 30, 2006, as all of her loving family gathered around her bedside at her home in Bakersfield. She peacefully succumbed to complications after bravely struggling to overcome her illness.
Peggy is survived by her husband, seven children, 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Peggy was born Nov. 29, 1934, in Oxford, England, and was the eighth child born to Thomas and Bertha Parsonson, all of whom preceded her in death. World War II made life in England difficult for her widowed mother, who had eight young children to raise. She decided to send Peggy and two siblings to America to live with relatives until her family could be reunited. In 1942, 8-year-old Peggy embarked upon a transatlantic ocean liner voyage to a new life in Detroit. She attended local schools, graduated from E. Commerce Vocational High School in Detroit and worked as a stenographer upon graduation.
In 1954, Peggy met the man who would become her husband of 51 years, Rick Bounville, while he was a young airman stationed at Shelfridge Air Force Base at Mt. Clemens, Mich. After a whirlwind courtship, he married his "beautiful redhead" and they traveled west to George Air Force Base in Victorville. By 1960, they settled at Travis Air Force Base, Fairfield, and remained there until their recent move to Stallion Springs of Tehachapi in 2002. During her years in Fairfield, Peggy settled in and made a full life out of being a devoted homemaker and raising her children. Peggy always had boundless energy for the demands of a busy household and readily showed her support for her children whether it was by attending countless Little League games and band performances, or even helping with newspaper delivery routes.
Peggy held various jobs over the years including working at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Vallejo, as a civil service personnel clerk. She retired in 1997 after 10 years of employment.
For all who knew Peggy, it was her love and devotion for God and her servant's heart that will forever be remembered. She had a passion for furthering God's work in foreign missions and often stated she had a childhood dream to travel to Africa as a missionary. Peggy instilled the same virtues and knowledge into all of her children and her never-ending prayers truly impacted all of their lives. During her time in Solano County, Peggy attended various local churches and last attended Westwind Christian Center, Suisun City. Peggy served as the church secretary and was involved with their foreign missions program.
Peggy's Christian faith was unshakable and even through the darkest hours of her illness, she continued to set the example for others as she renewed her strength from our heavenly Father daily. There was never a moment of questioning God or complaining about her plight. She had a heart full of love and thanksgiving for her husband and his ceaseless devotion as he cared for her in her illness. Peggy's family was blessed beyond measure for all she so selflessly gave to them. While she may be missed immeasurably, her love and her spirit will be ever present in the hearts of all of those who were blessed to have known her.
In addition to her husband, Rick Bounville of Bakersfield, she is also survived by her children, Rochelle Bounville of Berkeley, Renee and Tom Beckner of Santa Cruz, Robin Bounville of Fairfield, Richard and Kathy Bounville of Tehachapi, Roxanne and Greg Thompson of Napa, and David Bounville and Tony Bounville of Bakersfield; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
At her request, a celebration of Peggy's life was held in private with her family.
