Frank A. McDowell, beloved husband and father, after a struggle with pancreatic cancer, passed away Nov. 13, 2011, surrounded by his family at home in Texas. He was born April 28, 1944, in Midland, the son of Robert James McDowell, Sr. and Marie Inez (Briggs) McDowell. He graduated from Midland High School in 1962. After four years of service in the U.S. Air Force, he graduated in 1975 with a bachelor's degree from Northwood Institute and went on to work several years in manufacturing and 32 years in the computer software industry as a consultant. An avid reader, Mr. McDowell enjoyed traveling, especially cruising.
Frank is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lee Fike McDowell; daughter, Michelle Hoover and husband, Tim; son, Robert James McDowell III; three stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and was about to be blessed to become the grandfather of four adopted children, all of Texas. Also surviving are his mother, Marie Williams Jonas; three sisters, Jeanne (Dave) Kinne, Mary (Dick) Sherman, and Peggy (Curt) Bredt; one brother, Robert (Sandy) McDowell Jr. all of Midland; four stepsiblings, Russell (Mary) Williams, Beverly (Mike) Waddey, Robert (Mary) Williams, and Marlene (Steve) Dowling; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec, 10, 2011, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1550 S. Poseyville, Midland. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army Angel Tree program at 330 Waldo Ave, Midland, MI 48640 or the charity of your choice.
