News Death Notice

ORTMAN, Lois Lee (Lu) Of Jupiter, FL formerly of Centerville, OH, departed this life on Saturday, December 5, 2015. Lu was the daughter of Clyde Phillips, President of the Capitol Gas Company growing up in Granville, Oh at an estate on the Scioto River. Lu graduated from Grandview High School and after a business and part-time modeling career married Jack Ortman, PGA golf professional in November 1951. The newlywed couple made their home in Akron for several years before settling in Dayton, OH when Jack became Assistant Golf Pro at Dayton Country Club. A few years later Jack designed the course and became the head golf professional at Sycamore Creek Country Club in June 1959. Lu was an original whether it be as a guest at the White House or Championship Awards for the PGA Lu's inner and outer beauty always shone. She only had to enter a room of 10 or 1000 for every head to turn to admire her presence. A vivacious and gregarious person who could adapt to any situation whether in the Pro Shop helping Jack to arranging spectacular parties for friends at Sutt's (Suttmiller's) a consummate wife, mother, grandmother, party giver, and loyal friend to many. It was small measure of the love she lavished on each family member and friend tenaciously loyal to all she loved. Lu was preceded in death by husband Jack Ortman, grandson Chaz Ortman, her father , mother, and step- mother Lorena, brothers Frank Phillips, Snook Phillips, and sister Mary Messerschmidt. Surviving Lu are beloved sons JC Ortman of Charlotte, NC., Jeff Jamison Ortman of Stuart, FL., grandchildren Jacklyn Ortman of Knoxville, TN., Nicholas Ortman of Jacksonville, FL., Jace Ortman, and Devani Ortman of Charlotte, NC., nieces Leslie Cochran, of Palm Coast, FL., and Marty Gillespie of Columbus, OH., nephew Steve Messerschmidt of Columbus, OH., and special friend like a son Dennis Hutson of Lake City, TN., The family would like to acknowledge with deep appreciation, love, and thoughtfulness the staff of Atria at St. Joseph's Assisted Living Jupiter, FL for their unwavering support and care during Lu's illness.
