Nanette S. "Nan" Nidlinger, 68, of rural Decatur, IN, passed away the morning of September 12, 2025 at her residence. Nan was born on January 31, 1957, in Decatur to the late Eugene F. and Irene H. (Krueckeberg) Kiess. On July 17, 1976, she married John D. Nidlinger.
Nan was a lifelong member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church - Friedheim and was a 1975 graduate of Bellmont High School. She worked for Tioga as Plant Accountant from 1975-1980. After Nan married John, she became Secretary Treasurer for the family farm operation from 1976-2023, and was a founding member of Nidlinger Farms Inc. in 1988. She served as Clerk of the Circuit Court for Adams County from 2000-2008, then went on to work for Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance from 2009-2023.
She was an Adams County Farm Bureau Women's Leader, Adams County Extension board member, and Mini 4-H club leader. She served on the Lutheran Foundation Board of Directors for a decade.
Nan is survived by her husband of 49 years, John Nidlinger of Decatur; 3 children, J.D. (Casey) Nidlinger of Decatur, Kylene (Todd) Deitemyer of Worthington, OH, and Matthew (Haleigh) Nidlinger of Decatur; 2 brothers, Gregg (Kay) Kiess of Ft. Wayne and Duane (Lisa) of Decatur; 2 sisters, Cynthia (Paul) DesJean and Debra (Toney) Bergman both of Decatur; 11 grandchildren, Jarrett (Grace) Bailey, Elaine Nidlinger, Jack Deitemyer, Evelyn Nidlinger, John Deitemyer, Grace Nidlinger, Anna Deitemyer, Isabelle Nidlinger, John Nidlinger, Madelyn Nidlinger, and Joseph Nidlinger; 2 great grandchildren, Ramsey and Monroe Bailey
Visitation will be from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 15, 2025 at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at Zion Lutheran Church, Friedheim with Pastor Matthew Ulmer officiating. Visitation will be prior to service from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. Burial will follow in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Friedheim.
Preferred memorials are to the Building Fund for the Zion Friedheim Prayer Garden (checks payable to Zion Friedheim) or the Nidlinger Family Scholarship Purdue University School of Agriculture.
