Margaret Brackin Obituary

Margaret N. Brackin

AGE: 79 • Wilmington

Margaret N. Brackin (Nourse), age 79, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2016, with her loving family by her side. Born in Baton Rouge, LA, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Sarah Nourse.

Margaret was a graduate of Conrad High School Class of 1954. She married the love of her life, Richard A. Brackin, in 1954 in Hawaii, where he was stationed in the U.S. Navy. As an only child, Margaret always wanted to have lots of children. In addition to being a loving mother to her four children, she was lovingly known as "Mar-Mar" to the many children she took care of as a childcare provider in her home through the years. At age 59, she went back to school to become a CNA with St. Francis Home Care, where she enjoyed being a caregiver to her elderly patients.

Margaret's greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her family. She was an awesome homemaker and great cook, who loved hosting the holidays and Sunday family dinners. Some of her favorite memories were traveling with her husband and family to Hawaii and New Orleans to celebrate their wedding anniversaries. Margaret will be remembered for her unconditional love for everyone. She was an animal lover and loved her pets. In her spare time, Margaret loved to read.

Margaret is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Richard; her children, Susan B. MacDonald (John), Stephen L. Brackin (Jo Ellen), Linda B. Jones (Thomas) and Thomas J. Brackin; her 9 grandchildren, Cameron Powers, Christopher Carlton, Caitlin Grant, Erin Brackin, Michael MacDonald, Alex Carlton, James MacDonald, Thomas J. Brackin, Jr., and Colin Brackin, as well as 6 great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Margaret's Life will be held on Monday, February 22, at 11 AM at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10 AM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Seasons Hospice, 220 Continental Drive, Newark, DE 19713.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Brackin Family through this sad time. Mar-Mar was the best childcare provider...we have so many childhood memories of her and spending time with the whole Brackin Family...so many stories to tell. Her home was our home away from home. She impacted our lives as young children and we will always remember her!
