Age 89, of Weaverville, NC, died on Friday, March 11, 2005 at Mission St. Joseph Hospital in Asheville, NC following a brief illness.
The son of Edwin F. and Elizabeth Summy Stoddard, he was born and raised in Hyattsville, MD. Dr. Stoddard was plant pathologist, and was a research scientist for the DuPont Company from 1949-1966. During World War II, Dr. Stoddard operated an agricultural experiment station near Mayaguez, PR, and later was a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. Dr. Stoddard had an extensive record of public service. He was Chairman of the New Garden Township Planning Commission, President of the Kennett Community Symphony Association, President of the Kennett Consolidated School Board, and a member of the Buncombe County Soil and Water Conservation Board. He lived in Kennett Square and New Garden Township from 1952-1986.
Dr. Stoddard was married for nearly 64 years to Mildred Howell Stoddard. He is survived by his wife; 4 children; 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Asheville, NC at 11 am on Wednesday, March 16th. ASHEVILLE AREA ALTERNATIVE FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, LLC.
