Irvin Ezekiel Jenkins, Colonel (Retired), US Army, was reunited with God on December 11, 2007. Irvin resided in Berkeley Heights, NJ with his wife of 33 years, Jeanne Elizabeth Cross Jenkins, of Summit, NJ. Born January 4, 1934 in Baltimore, MD, Irvin was the son of the late Stansbury Roberts and Naomi Jenkins Jones. He graduated from Douglas High School in Baltimore, MD in 1952 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry from Morgan State College in 1956, and a Master of Hospital Administration from Baylor University, in 1968. While at Morgan, Irvin was also in the Reserve Officer's Training Corps and was commissioned upon graduation in the Army Medical Service Corps. He was called to active duty in October of 1956 at Fort Lewis, Washington. For the next 30 years, Irvin held several influential military assignments including, Frankfort Germany, Fort Sam Houston, TX, Long Bing Vietnam, Ft, Riley, KS, Ft. Devens, MA, Ft Knox, KY, Canal Zone, Panama, and Ft. Detrick, MD and Ft. Dix,NJ. He retired in 1986. After his distinguished military career, Irvin accepted a position as Chief Operating Officer at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Following this, Irvin served as Assistant Superintendent in the Trenton School district, and, then as a real estate associate with Prudential Real Estate. Irvin was a member of the Free Mason's, Kappa Alpha Psi and Phi Delta Kappa Fraternities, and The Summit Area Old Guard
Irvin is survived by his wife Jeanne, his children, Irvin Jr., Michael, John, Gary, Bryant and Michael and daughters, Cheryl, Kimberly and Kirsten, a sister, Karen Jones, his 16 grandchildren and a multitude of friends and colleagues. A memorial service will be held at 11 am, Saturday, December 15 at the United Methodist Church, 1441 Springfield Ave, in New Providence, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to one of Irvin's favorite organizations, the Paralyzed Veterans of America., 801 Eighteenth Ave, NW, Washington, DC 20009, www.pva.org.
