Age 78, formerly of Wilmington, DE, died Friday November 24, 2006 at Union Hospital in Elkton, MD.
Dick was born in Columbus, OH on June 19, 1928, the son of the late William and Madge Leader. He was an Eagle Scout, active in scouting both in Wilmington and Camp Rodney in North East, MD, as a camper and counselor. A U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and Korea, he served with the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Palestine in 1948. Dick was a District Sales Representative with Sherwin-Williams Company before co-founding Bay Head Marine in Elkton in 1963. After semi-retirement in 1988, he continued his association in the marine industry with Marine Equipment and Supply Company of Thorofare, NJ. In his final years at Marine Equipment and Supply, he documented an extensive history of the 90 year old family held company and the parallel growth of the marine industry. This was published in book form for private distribution. Dick was very active at the Elkton Presbyterian Church within their Prime Timers and the Office and Outreach Department.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan Reynolds Leader; 2 sons, Richard R., and his wife, Nancy, of Easton, MD, and John W., and his wife, Lesley, of Salisbury, MD; grandson, Benjamin; a brother, James E., and his wife, Carillon, of Washington, DC.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm, on Wednesday, November 29, at Elkton Presbyterian Church, 209 East Main Street, Elkton, MD. Burial will follow in West Nottingham Presbyterian Cemetery.
