After spending the evening with her son, Jeffrey M. Weiner, and grandson, Max E. Weiner, peacefully passed away in her sleep October 17, 2006.
She was retired as Assistant Executive Director of Wilmington Jewish Community Center for 26 years. She was a Camp director, Administrative Director, Director of Development of Delaware JCC, and started a Day Care Program as well as other programs of the JCC. Also, active in National Jewish Association of Professionals she was a board member and officer several times; and board member of the Jewish Community National Association. Was appointed to Original Delaware Commission of Women by Governor Pete DuPont and served 15 years; she chaired several Hall of Fame events and seminars; and member of the original Delaware Charter of "NOW" (National Organization of Women). She was involved with the founding of "OWL" (Older Women's League) and served as a board member of ACLU for several years. She was actively involved in starting Group Workers Association for United Way, which later became the National Fund Raising Executives Association. She was a member of Temple Beth Emeth; Haddash; ORT; NCJW. During World War II, she worked as Budget and Finance Officer of the OPA and was awarded a medal from the U.S. government. As a teenager, she won "jitter-bug" contests and dancing with the best bands including, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey and lots of others. She was also involved with the former Arden Summer Stock and Wilmington Drama League.
She is predeceased by her husband, Eugene J. Weiner, after 62 years of marriage; and her daughter, Barbara.
A graveside service for family and close friends will be held at 2 pm, on Wednesday, October 18, 2006, at the Jewish Community Cemetery, 201 Foulk Road, Wilmington, DE 19803, followed by a memorial service at Beth Emeth on Sunday, November 19, 2006.
