James "JT" Clayton Toliver

AGE: 66 • Dover

James "JT" Clayton Toliver of Dover, Delaware passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on June 28, 2017, at the age of 66. He passed away after a long battle with cancer at the Seasons Hospice of Christiana Hospital.

JT was born on July 8, 1950, in Lufkin, Texas to the late Grady and Gussie Toliver. He graduated from Sahuarita High School in Arizona in 1968 where he was an outstanding athlete. He attended Lawrence University in Appleton, WI for two years. Because of the Vietnam War he enlisted in the Air Force and was an active member for 20 years. After retiring from the Air Force he went back to school and graduated from Delaware State University with a degree in education. He taught fourth and fifth graders in the Caesar Rodney School District for ten years. A true passion of his was that for more than 20 years, Mr. Toliver enjoyed coaching basketball and track, where he touched the lives of many students and athletes.

JT is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Jackie Toliver, and their three children, Jeff Toliver (Tammi), Janissa Nuneville (Bill), and Jeremy Toliver. He also leaves behind two special nieces, Monique Rodriguez (Rick) and Nicole Crawford. He leaves to cherish his memory three grandchildren whom he adored, Greyson, Trey and Avery Nuneville. In addition, he is survived by his two brothers, Larry Toliver (Yong Suk) and Clifton Toliver and three special sisters-in-law.

A celebration of life service will take place at 10am on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Calvary Church, 1141 East Lebanon Road, Dover, DE 19901. There will be an opportunity for family and friends to pay their respects beforehand at 9am. Burial will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Cancer Society. Letters of condolence may be sent and guest book signed at www. benniesmithfuner alhome.com. I grew up with James at the Camp in Sahuarita, AZ. He is my brother, my friend, my coach. I truly hoped to meet James again and tell him how he is my mentor. We did not have a whole lot then just the passion for competition. Javier Blanco

Janissa and the Toliver Family,
I used to work under Jamissa's supervision at Gunning Bedford and I only met Mr Toliver one time. I still remember his smile and friendliness. I can only imagine how much positive impact he has had on so many lives. I send my deepest condolences.
