Officer Talley Obituary

Talley, Officer Eric H.

Eric Huston Talley, devoted husband and father, passed away on 3/22/2021 at the age of 51. Eric was born in Houston, TX on 9/26/1969. He was the son of Homer Carroll Talley III and Judy Ellen (Butler) Talley. He graduated from Highland High School in Albuquerque, NM in 1988. He earned a Master's degree from Ball State University in computer science in 2001 and worked in the tech industry for six years before becoming a police officer in Boulder, CO in 2010. He married Leah Anne Laurenzano on 8/19/1993 and over the next twenty-eight years raised seven children. Though he began his profession working for Avaya in Thornton, CO, he "felt a higher calling" and at the age of 40 transitioned into the police force, a childhood dream. He would often jokingly acknowledge that he entered the police force because it was less stressful than trouble-shooting computer systems. Eric was never afraid to confront danger. For the next eleven years he protected his family as well as his community while working as a Boulder Police Officer. He not only patrolled the streets but willingly took on many collateral duties including being one of the original members of the police drone team. He also worked as part of the Explorers program which positively influenced young boys and girls to become police officers. He continually touched many hearts and saved many lives. He was loved by many and he will be missed by all.
Eric is survived by his wife, Leah Anne (Laurenzano); his seven children, Aaron Michael, Livia Angelina, Madeline Grace, Stephen Christopher, Phillip Andrew, Laura Kathryn, Paul Shay Marie; his mother, Judy Ellen (Butler) Talley; father, Homer Carroll "Shay" Talley III; step-mother, Jean (Deardoff) Talley; sister, Kirstin Brooks; and niece, Jorleigh Rider.
Celebration of Life will be held Tues., 3/30/2021, 11am at Flatirons Church, 355 W. South Boulder Rd., Lafayette. While the general public is welcome to attend, attendance at the event is limited due to COVID-19 restrictions. Therefore, anyone interested in viewing the service is encouraged to watch via livestream on local news stations. Leah, Brad and I are just heartbroken. We had just been talking about you guys and that we hadn't heard from Eric in a while. Brad had run across his starcraft game on an old computer and said he missed those nightly games. We will be thinking of you in this difficult time. Maybe someday we can make it west and would love to see you and the kids.

I continue to be saddened by the loss of Eric to his family, his friends, his profession. He was a good guy! We worked together at PA Labs, we shared a birthday day, love of football, (even though he loved the Dallas Cowboys) and he was always up! Smart, caring, energetic guy, gone too soon. Eric adored his family. I pray God keep them safe and give them strength for the days ahead.

I live in Virginia state, when I heard of the mass shooting that had taken place in Colorado, my heart was broken. Then I heard the story about Officer Eric Talley, the bravery he'd shown. So I was compelled to write this message to his family, friends, community, and his fellow officers. I wanted them to know that his story effected me and you all have my deepest condolences. Just know the bravery your son, brother, husband, father and coworker will not be forgotten. May you all find peace and comfort. Rest high Officer Eric Talley - your work here is done.

I may have never met Officer Talley But I would love to be his friend. I'm here writing this because I'm 17 turning 18 soon But it's because I want to be a police officer. I may not be an officer but it's hard to see an officer be killed and not be hurt. Thank you Officer Talley for fighting these evils in our streets. (RIP Officer Talley)

I worked with Eric at Target in Muncie, Indiana while he was a student at Ball State. His smile was always cheerful and his laugh was infectious. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing and I'm praying for his family.

He put others before himself walking in king soopers that was under fire. If not for police officers the death toll would be higher. My heart goes out to his family, and his extended family in blue. Rest in peace.
