Mr. Burtis, Ms. Burtis, Katie-bug and Lauren, There are no words to express my heartfelt sympathy to you and your family. It is hard to believe a year has come and gone since Chris’s passing.
While there is nothing I can say that will ease your loss, I wanted you to know that I am thinking of you all. Chris left me a memory of determination, strength and a desire to be the best that one can be..

'Brother', was the word that came from sister, Katie's mouth as she answered another phone call from Chris. This was the frequent greeting I heard when spending time with Katie. I have had you on my mind a lot today. What a wonderful man and brother you were, your strength and determination are to be admired. Not only having a wonderful personality, a generous heart but also posessing a smile that could light up any room. Chris I only met you a handful of times and have known the Buris family for a little over a year. Each memory are special to me, please be with them during the holidays, I know you are looking down, please protect them and fill their saddened hearts. Please help them to have the same peace you are experiancing in your new home. God bless you my brother in Christ...

Dearest Burtis Family,
My heart has been deeply touched by the mere presence of your son in so many ways. For many years, Chris and I have crossed paths and celebrated some amazing memories together. His smile, his laugh, his signature run in his baseball uniform .. I will always remember. He was a one-of-a-kind friend, and he will forever be missed. He will always be remembered with a loving heart and a charming zest for life.
Steve and Terry, you raised an amazing young man. Chris leaves a legacy of determination and strength, showing everyone how to continue to fight on even in the toughest of battles.
Katie and Lauren, Chris was such a proud older brother. He loved watching the two of you shine and blossom. He will always continue to protect you both.
May God bless your family during this difficult time and continue to give you the strength to remember Chris' legacy and celebrate his life.
My love and my prayers,
Danielle
And to Chris, I love you! I never stopped loving you... :)

Dear Burtis Family,
As a coach, you meet many individuals over a period of time. My rewards are not the wins vs. losses, but the realization of having touched someone and it making a difference. But the truly lasting rewards come from when those special individuals have touched you back. Chris was one of those special ones. He is already missed and my heart goes out to you for your loss.

I saw this in the paper and I am so so sorry for your loss! I remember Chris when he was a toddler in a Bronco sweatsuit. We were watching the game at your house and I remember him standing on tiptoes to peek over the couch. What a handsome man with a great smile he grew up to be. Our thoughts are with you. At Each Departure
As the elders remind us
the salmon don’t actually die.
Instead it is said that
the inner being for the salmon
leaves its old boat and enters
the body of a land animal
which then travels
until it reaches the ocean
where it departs form the shore
once again in the form of the salmon.
As for the People it is said
at death spirits rise into the sky
to dance in the aurora
awaiting the birth of children
who bear their names,
who become the vessels for their souls.
Blackfoot River saying.

To your family:
I remember how you lived your lives for the family activities. I remember the move into the "City". I remember the story of Chris "losing" his room for awhile.
I have tried to follow some similar actions in raising our son. Having responsibilities for our children.
I cannot think to understand your loss of a son and brother.
