Carol Stine Obituary

Stine, Carol Clayton
Feb. 14, 1946 - Jan. 31, 2021

Carol. Lee Lee. Mrs. Stine. Mrs. Lt. Colonel Stine. President of the Officers' Wives' Club. Bube. Mom. SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed). She was a woman of many names. Apt for a woman of many friends: Jeepers, artists, spiritualists, military men and women, activists, lawyers, cops and judges, Hells Angels, and hairdressers. She was always ready for a party and at the center of the fun; with a gracious smile, she was always positive and rarely complained. She patiently waited for plays to begin, soccer games to end, and for the Jeep to be repaired on some far-flung trail in the bitter cold or the stifling heat. She was born Carol Lee Clayton, in Chicago Heights, IL, on Valentine's Day, 1946. She grew up in Hannibal, MO exploring Tom Sawyers' cave, playing on the limestone hills and cliffs, and sailing on the Mississippi with the local Sea Scouts. In 1965 she met Alan Stine while attending the University of Missouri. They fell in love (against the wishes of some) but she would not be dissuaded. Because She is Who Must Be Obeyed. From there, the Air Force took them to Europe where they set out on many adventures: Crete, Germany, England, the Netherlands, Greece, Turkey, and more. They came back to the US, started a family, and set out again, on road trips across North America. From Mexico to Alaska, they drove. Often choosing back roads and blue highways. And innumerable dirt trails in Colorado and the Four Corners region by Jeep or RV. She fell in love with the Southwest and assembled a collection of American Indian art, especially kachinas. She was a lover of sports. The St Louis Cardinals, the Denver Broncos, and Mizzou basketball were at the top of her list. She always enjoyed the company of others, whether playing games, sitting around a campfire, or over a good meal with a nice glass of wine. But most of all, she loved spending time with her family; her daughter Katherine/Miryam (husband Joey) who preceded her. And those she is survived by; husband Alan, sister Pat, son Andrew (wife Kebbie), six beloved grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for that smile and her constant optimism. In loving memory. Private service Friday, February 5, 2021, 10:30 AM MST, visit FeldmanMortuary.com to livestream. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you contribute to any of her favorite causes.
