Thad Call Obituary

Thad J Call
1962 - 2018
Thad J Call died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, June 9 at the age of 55. Thad was born on July 3, 1962 to Teddy Lou Brown and O. Jay Call in Ogden, Utah. Thad was the eldest child of the family and is remembered as a kind-hearted child, nurturing big brother, and animal-lover. Among his favorite things to do as a boy was spending time with his family in Rexburg, Idaho; especially with his maternal grandparents, Jack and Verla Brown.
At the age of 20, Thad married Laurie Campbell. The couple had two children, Whitney and Tyson Call. Thad was a patient and loving father. He was always involved in his children's lives, and enjoyed spending time with them and teaching them new things. His children remember the wonderful adventures they shared as a family, appreciating different cultures, sampling new foods, and meeting people. Thad instilled a love of travel, an appreciation for the outdoors, a zest for trying new things, and a sense of competency and belief in themselves. In 2006, Thad and Laurie divorced, but remained friends.
Thad had several business endeavors throughout his life. In his early years, he worked in the video rental business, then ran a travel plaza in Blythe, California. Later, Thad started an ink recycling business and managed his own trucking company for several years. He was involved in family businesses, serving as a stockholder and board member of Flying J and FJM. Thad loved to learn and was always well-informed about many topics. He liked to read and had a great memory. We will miss his engaging conversations and quiet intelligence.
Thad was an avid fisherman throughout his entire life. He fished in many corners of the world, catching peacock bass in South America, King Salmon in Canada, marlin and sailfish in Mexico, giant sturgeon in the Snake River, and more. He primarily practiced catch and release, always valuing nature and conservation. He adored spending time on the ocean boating, scuba diving, fishing, and snorkeling. Following in the footsteps of his father, Thad obtained his pilot's license and enjoyed flying. He had an adventurous spirit and deeply valued exploring the world.
In 2008, Thad married Ronda Porter. In their time together, they lived life to the fullest. They shared a love for travel and spending time with friends. Many have fond memories of spending time on Thad's boat in Mexico and Alaska. He loved taking people on the boat to share his passions. He was always generous in making sure that people had fun and memorable experiences. We are saddened that he will not be here to experience the boat following a remodel that he had been working on over the past few years.
Thad was loved by many people. He has countless friends who will miss his easy-going spirit and his kindness. He will be especially missed by his wife, kids, and grandchildren. Survivors include his grandmother, Verla Brown; mother, Teddy Chamberlain (Rod); stepmother, Tamra Corcoran (Dan); sister, Crystal Maggelet (Chuck); wife, Ronda Call; daughter, Whitney Call (Kyle Blanchard); son, Tyson Call (Lauren); stepdaughter Brittney Aime (Clint); and grandkids: Liviana and Adelaide Blanchard Call, Amelia Call, Tyler, Porter, Macee, and Mack Aime.
Family and friends are invited to attend an intimate celebration of Thad's life on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Red Butte Garden, located at 300 Wakara Way, Salt Lake City, UT 84108. Words of remembrance will be held at 5 p.m., followed by hors d'oeuvres and refreshments. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Thad's name to The Ocean Foundation, www.oceanfdn.org.
