Anita Broadhead Obituary

Anita Shumway Broadhead 3/28/1969 ~ 2/3/2004  Our beautiful Anita passed away at home on February 3, 2004 at age 34 of Breast Cancer. She was born March 28, 1969 in Moscow, Idaho to Patricia Redd and Lewis Kay Shumway. She started school in Pullman, Washington. The family moved to Blanding, Utah where she graduated from San Juan High in 1987. She attended the College of Eastern Utah San Juan Campus in Blanding and got her B.S. degree from Weber State College in 1993. She married Steven Lynn Broadhead a student of Weber State who grew up in St. George, Utah. They were married in the Manti Temple on June 19, 1992. Anita enjoyed time with her family, spending time with her sisters, the outdoors, gardening, and scrap booking. They have one daughter Breanne Nichole age seven. Anita is survived by her husband Steve and daughter Breanne and by her parents and siblings: Jody (Phil) Lyman, Stuart (Manette) Shumway, Katrina (Blake) Smith, Beverly (Enoch) Laudie, Amber (Greg) Brown, and Robyn (John) Callahan; her mother and father in-law David and Bonnie Broadhead of St. George, Utah and their children, Rodney (Susan) Broadhead, Kristi (Chuck) Bundy, Kathy (J.D.) Nyland and James (Diana) Broadhead. Anita died of breast cancer, a terrible disease that strikes quickly, but lingers forever. Breast cancer takes mothers from children, daughters from parents, and wives from husbands. At Anita's request, instead of buying flowers, please donate to the cause of fighting breast cancer. Help stop this from happening to others. You can send donations to: The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265-0309. There will also be a trust fund set up in Breanne's name at America First Credit Union. Funeral services for Anita will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2004, at 12:00 noon, in the Westbrook 6th Ward Chapel located at 6364 South 3200 West, West Jordan, Utah. A viewing will be held on Friday evening, February 6, 2004, from 6-8 p.m., at the Warenski Funeral Home, 1776 North 900 East, American Fork, Utah (located four blocks north of the Mt. Timpanogos Temple), and an additional viewing Friday morning from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment for Anita will take place immediately following her funeral service at the Murray City Cemetery located at 5600 South Vine Street Murray, Utah. Funeral arrangements are being conducted under the direction of Warenski Funeral Home, American Fork, Utah.

This thing (breast cancer) breaks my heart a-part. What an incredibly beautiful woman lost to this, and I feel lost and at such a loss because I know things must change-that this wonderful, talented person didn't need to go this way. I am at loss- my sorrow cannot be expressed in just a few words

Steve;

We are saddened by the passing of your wife. I only meant your wife and you one time, but in that one time could tell she was a special person. We have kept track of her health from my brother Stuart Dickson. We never know when we are going to be called home. Please accept our condolences at this time. God bless you and your little girl!

Steven & family: Bev & Enoch shared with us your sad news. Our heart goes out to you and your daughter at this sad time. But the knowledge you have of where Anita is now and that she no longer has to live with the pain or disability that cancer brings has to be a comfort today and in the days to come. I lost my college sweetheart to a brain tumor when she was only 28 and we had 3 children under the age of 6, so I know your loss and can attest to what lies ahead for you. Please cherish the time you had together, and know that with time the sadness will pass and the good memories will remain forever. You and your daughter will carry on and eternally you'll be reunited if you but endure to the end as Anita did. With love and sincere best wishes - Uncle (Enoch's) Rich Laudie

Our hearts go out to Anita's husband Steve and daughter Breann and to her parents Kay and Patsy as well as her brother and sisters. What a story of courage and strength they have shown through this long ordeal. Anita showed through the whole struggle a love and trust in Heavenly Father. We are all better off knowing her and those she leaves behind.
