Ryan Mouritsen Obituary

Ryan Christopher Mouritsen 6/5/75 ~ 2/27/09 Our sweet son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend, Ryan Christopher Mouritsen, was taken from us suddenly while doing what he loved most - flying. He passed away in the early morning on Friday, February 27, 2009, from injuries sustained the previous night in an ultralight accident at the airport in Torrance,California. Ryan was born June 5, 1975, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Robert K. and Laurel G. Mouritsen. Ryan grew up and lived in Sandy, Utah, until moving to Los Angeles in 1998 to pursue his dreams. He inspired and lifted all who came in contact with him. Ryan always saw the positive side of every situation and added excitement, enthusiasm and humor to our lives. During Ryan's lifetime, he had many goals. One was to move to California on his own to pursue a career in acting. While involved in acting, he also developed a passion and talent for script writing in the television and film industry. He wrote and home-produced some of his own works, including movies which starred each member of his family. Another goal was to become a pilot and then a certified flight instructor. Ryan always accomplished his goals with flying colors! He especially loved spending time with his best friends - his dad and his brother Rob - traveling, going to air shows, and playing Risk and Chess with them. Ryan also greatly enjoyed spending time with his friends in California going on exciting outings and adventures. Ryan exemplified kindness, love and honesty every day of his life. A day didn't pass without Ryan calling or emailing his family members just to chit-chat, check up on them, or share some exciting news about his life. Never did he finish a phone call without saying "I love you!" He always showed his affection with hugs and kisses and major tight squeezes. We love you so very much, Ryan, and your memory will always be with us. You touched us all on so many levels; you opened our minds to so many things; and you taught us how to love and respect everyone regardless of our differences. We are going to miss you more than we could ever put into words. We know we will see you again, and that you are now touching those on the other side. Keep on flying high! Ryan is survived by his parents, Robert K. and Laurel Mouritsen; his brother, Rob V. (Mariela) Mouritsen; his sisters, Amy (Austin) Day and Mandi (Tim) Bowen; three nieces and five nephews, whom he adored. Preceded in death by his nephew (Camden Bowen) and by his grandparents. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2009, at 12:00 noon at the Telford Way Chapel, 1834 East Creek Road (7995 South), Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held on Friday, March 6, from 6-8 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends may also visit one hour prior to services on Saturday, March 7, at the Telford Way Chapel. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Dear Bob and Laurel,

Many years have passed since our paths have crossed. How sad we are to hear of Ryan's accident in Torrence, which was not far from where we lived many years ago. As you know, Ryan worked for Bob, Jr. and me while I was out of the country for several years. Times were difficult and the company would have never made it without Ryan's help. He was able to do the impossible, which was to line up appointments for Bob, Jr., leaving Bob the time to travel and see/sell those prospects. Everyone that that I have seen try to do this kind of work in the last 40 years has failed. Not Ryan. He had the uncanny ability to be kind, gentle and yet captivating at the same time. People actually enjoyed talking to him. Bob, Jr. and I owe a debt of gratitude to Ryan. We were very fond of him. He was the very best!

Ryan always wanted to be in twelve places at once. He also wanted to know what was going on in everyone's life all the times. Now he can, and I take great comfort in knowing that he is and will forever be with me. Through good times and bad. It's hard to grieve knowing you're here with me. I love you!

Dear Mouritsen Family,
We have shared joys & disappointments of life for over 30 years… the depth of loss felt at Ryan’s passing is buoyed up but our knowledge of Eternal Life for family. For me, Ryan’s brief separation from family & friends is bearable because of faith in Eternal Life and remembering how Ryan shared his life with others—he always conveyed acceptance, friendship & hope to all who encountered his calm demeanor. We are left with memories of the goodness of Ryan’s life coupled with an understanding that our life path will cross again. May God grant you strength & hope to believe & know that life is indeed eternal.
Sincerely,
Kelly & Linda Sheppard

Ryan is the master of being totally present, completely loving and compassionate, actively listening and sharing his best with whomever he is with. We are forever changed because he blessed our lives so profoundly with his authentic, loving, and engaging example. We miss him so much already.

Bob and Laurel, thank you for sharing your precious and wonderful son with us. Ryan thought of you two and his siblings at all times. He made decisions with your thoughts first. Tobi and I will miss him and he will always be in our thoughts. There are so many times that we think of him and we are so greatful to have shared him. There are so many things to say and just not the words to say them.

We loved him and miss him.

Bob and Laura, We surely want to express our sympathy for your great loss at this time. Even though we were never blessed with the opportunity to know your son, we know he has wonderful parents so we know he had to be a wonderful son. After reading his obituary, we know what a wonderful son he was and we know how much you will miss him. We know how hard it is to lose a member of your family. Love to your family.

A good young man who always had a smile and was nice enough to laugh at some of our bad jokes. When your working on a show like Reba... its a bunch of people who get together to get a show done...and they in turn ...become a Family. Our little Family lost a good one...and Ryan will be missed. Nothing but "3-point landings" from now on...CHEERS Ryan... 143.

Please accept our intense love, admiration, and appreciation for each one of you in the loss of your darling Ryan...Why Father reserves his choicest "blessings" on His choicest people...such as you ALL is an enigma I look forward to understanding one day. I just suppose he believes in your magnificent abilities to do MUCH good...NO MATTER WHAT...Please KNOW how much we love you and how highly we are holding all of you up to Him...
