Dr. Zenger was my husband's Dr. We bonded with him on our first meeting. This was a blessing as my husband, Mike, was very ill. Mike was older than Dr. Zenger. We smiled about this as Mike´s Dad had jokingly told him to find a Dr. younger than he was so the Dr. would out live him!
Mike´s illness was a death sentence- we knew this - we just didn´t know the time span. Dr. Zenger was more than Mike´s Dr. he became a trusted friend to both of us. We usually had our young grandson with us on these visits. Dr. Zinger told us that our little grandson reminded him of his son when he was little and he was kind to our grandson always paying attention to him on our visits. In kindergarten the children were to dress up like someone they knew our grandson said he wanted to be Dr. Zenger, which he did. On one visit Dr. Zenger took me aside and told me what to expect at the time of Mike´s passing. It would be a noisy hard death, with Mike gasping and fighting for air- I was alone with Mike in our home when he died. I was calm as I had been directed by Dr. Zenger. Dr. Zenger passed away before Mike did. This was a very sad time in our lives. I comfort myself in the fact that Dr. Zenger and Mike are carrying on their friendship which began on this earth. I am very grateful for Dr. Mark Zenger.

I have been under Dr. Zenger's care for the last 8 years. He has been a wonderful doctor to work with. Even though I have a terminal disease, he always treated me well and encouraged me to keep going. He even called me after hours a number of times to see how I was doing and offer me encouragement. I will miss him. Our prayers are with you and all members of your family. He was a great man and will be sorely missed

I was a patient of Dr. Zenger. I was so sad to hear of his passing. He was a wonderful Dr. He will be truly missed. He was such a kind Dr. He was what a physician should be, one that was concerned about their patients. He would always come in with a smile which sometimes you don't see, he took the time to do what needed to be done to take care of me. I will miss him.

Dear Jennifer, Liza and Brian,
I just want you to know how sorry I am about the passing of your wonderful husband and dad. He was a gracious, kind and genuine individual. I loved spending time chatting with him on the sidelines of Liza's games for so many years. I also loved how he would get up and walk the dog (Roxy, right?) when things got a bit too intense! It was clear how proud he was of his family.
Also, I am indebted to Mark for what he did to help me when I was ill with pericarditis and had nowhere else to turn. The day he gave me the correct diagnosis and started me on the right medications is a day I will never forget. I truly feel he saved my life that day, and I have been forever grateful. He was such a calming influence, and he immediately put me at ease.
Our love and thoughts are with your family.
All the best, Sue Winchester (and the Winchester family)

I was a patient of Dr Zenger's. He really put you at ease and you knew that he cared for you as an individual.
To his family, I wish you comfort during this time and am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. I knew that he had put up a valiant fight with his cancer. I can only imagine that he was in a lot of pain and felt sick all the time, so it is my hope that he found peace and rest from the cancer.

I worked with Dr Zenger as an Rn doing procedures at Cottonwood Hospital before I came to know him as my personal pulmonary MD. I chose him because of his caring manner, intelligence and love of what he was doing. I was devastated to learn he had lost his battle with cancer. I am a survivor of 12 years and my husband is a 13 year survivor. I had a lot of compassion for this man and greatly feel this loss both personally and professionally. I want his family to know there were so many people who loved and respected him. I hope you can take some comfort from this knowledge. He made my life better and I am the richer for knowing him.

I am sad to hear of Dr. Zenger's passing. I met him when I was working in the medical records office at Alta View several years ago. I saw him often when he came in to sign charts. He impressed me right from the start as a warm and approachable physician. Once I asked him about his work with patients who seemed to be so ill, and his answer was compassionate and insightful. It is nice to read in his obituary about the other things that were a part of his life. He will be missed by those of us at Intermountain Healthcare.

Dr. Zenger became my pulmonary specialist a few years ago. I remember him getting right down to business and immediately focusing on my health issues...but what impressed me was the kind, caring and gentle manner in which he did it. I felt immediately at ease with him and we frequently joked about many things. He was an amazing man as well as an awesome physician, and I will miss him greatly. May your family find peace and comfort during this time and know that he is watching over you.

Dr. Zenger was a blessing in the life of my mother. He was the most kind and caring doctor that attended to her after we moved to Utah. She had suffered a stroke that had left her unable to talk. He always talked to her and found ways of communicating with her that helped to give her dignity when many others would not even try to communicate and would talk down to her. He treated me with great respect and kindness when she finally passed away. Our family was indeed blessed to have had him be a part of our lives. I believe he was an angel sent here on earth to walk among us. My love and sympathy go out to his family. Thank you for sharing him with the rest of us. God bless you all.

I worked in Dr. Zenger's clinic for only a year, but was always comforted by his wise words to me when times seemed unbearable. He was always aware of the needs of the people around him. I was diagnosed with cancer the same time Dr. Zenger was and stopped to see him and he made me feel like I was going to be okay. I saw him again at the UCS Center and because of his ability to put you at ease felt again everything would be fine. I am a better person for having known him! I wish his family peace and comfort at this time and thank my Heavenly Father for allowing Dr. Zenger to touch my life.

Dear Zenger Family~
From our Family to yours we sympathize with you at this time and want to tell you how sorry we are to hear of the passing of a GREAT man & Dr. and express such a great loss for the medical field. I was blessed to have Dr. Zenger as my own Dr. and he was SO accepting to take on my disabled son- Dr. Zenger had so much compassion and such a wonderful bedside manner, he cared about his patients and he respected the input of those he came into contact. Dr. Zenger saved my son's life the first time he was in the hospital and it was the second time just 33 months ago he was allowing our Family to take our son home on hospice to say goodbye to his family. Our Family will forever remember the kind man Dr. Zenger was and we will be forever grateful to have had such a great Dr. be in our care. We also want to Thank YOUR family for sacrificing the time your Husband and Father put into the lives of his patience. Until we meet again Dr. Zenger you will remain in our hearts! Our sympathies to your Family at this time.

Dear Lori and the medical family of IHC,
I call out of the deepest part of my heart, to the heavenly places, to the heart of Jesus Christ, for the peace within the spiritual realm to secure the spirit of Dr. Mark Zenger. My esteemed physician in this, the natural realm, in honor in every way to the throne of God, to secure my precious friend within the faithful doctor to me. In the most difficult times he was a faithful friend to me in a special place away from the problem to make it seem less as he was in all things that I could see as he perservered on without revealing the trials in his life as he gave it all to me. To you Lori, I wish I could embrace and let you feel and know all you have been to me. God bless you in this time ahead as I know the place of pain you have traveled through even now I see. May Jesus be so good and honorable to you as you so deserve. My blessing to you. Please read this to his family as my special regards or in any way I can tell them of the wonderful way as we all know now throughout this city and beyond a lull over the land and that throughout the heavenlies for you and your husband, father, and friend to have been blessed by the time to be honored within the life of Dr. Mark Zenger. May he rest in peace and great honor in this lull throughout the land and city of Salt Lake City. May the precious peace of Jesus Christ be with you to carry on, in his love within the realm of Jesus Christ our Savior. To his wife, you Jennifer, God's blessings to you and your family. Dawna Butterfield, Patient of Dr. Mark Zenger

I had the pleasure of working for Dr. Zenger at IMC in his clinic. I can without a doubt say that he was one of the most compassionate, dedicated and caring physicians I have worked for over my 25 years in Healthcare. Dr. Zenger took a genuine interest in his patient's wellbeing and they were just as loyal to him. Dr. Zenger often spoke of his children and his dear wife. While working for him you always knew his clinic was planned around his time with his family. He was such a proud father and loving husband who took so much pleasure in spending every spare moment together as a family. My heart is saddened by his death and the void of his presence that will be left for his family. He will forever be missed by those who called him an employer, friend, father, husband, son, and brother. I pray the memory of his giving nature, witty personality, warm smile and the selfless love he had for his family carry each of you through the times when you need it the most.

We are so sorry to hear of Mark's passing. He is a wonderful man. What I really remember the most fondly is when I was singing in the choir and he was the choir director. I know I don't have a fabuluos voice but he came to me (Crystal) encouraging me to sing anyway and saying that the choir needed my voice. But it was his kind, loving way of saying it that made a huge impact on me. He made me feel like I was a great participant.

I am SO sad to hear about this passing.
Mark was such a great guy, and an even better physician.
His patients and staff loved him and respected him. I know that he always was kind and courteous to me and my physicians needs while working for the Schmidt Chest Clinic.
This is truly a sad passing for this states Medical Community.
We will never forget him.
And we will never forget the family in our thoughts and prayers. As someone who had my mother pass away from lung cancer at the age of 46, just over a year ago, this hits home.

Dr. Zenger was and is one of kind. I have worked with and been patients of so many physicians through the years, but there was nobody like him. He loved his work and loved helping his patients and solving thier problems as best he could. We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Zenger. He has been my husband's Dr. for over 6 years. He was more than a Dr. to us, he was a good friend. My husband was to have had his appointment this week. We are sorry not to have seen Dr. Zenger one more time. Sometimes we had our grandson with us at the appointments. Dr. Zenger liked Isaac, he said he reminded him of his own son when he was little. One time Isaac told Dr.Zenger that he needed his oxygen levels checked! Dr. Zenger laughed but he did take Isaac's oxygen level! When Isaac was in pre-school they had a day when the children could dress up, Isaac put on a lab coat and said he was Dr. Zenger! Please accept our deepest sympathy and know that we are grieving along with your family. We know we can not find a Dr. like him anywhere! Mike and Karen Jones

Dr. Zenger was a wonderful physician and one of the finest that so was very dedicated to his profession and his patients. His caliber of presence was outstanding. It was an honor to know him. Blessings and heart felt sympathy to his family and his staff. He will be sorely missed by so many.

God has called home the most wonderful doctor I have ever know. Even with his illness, he was working and caring for his patients. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time. Nice to know of a Plan so we can all be together again someday.

Dr. Zenger was compassion, from the very day he took care of me, I felt I was under the wing of an Angel. He just had that much to give his patients. He has saved my life, many ways and many years. There were no other Physicians with his bedside manner. He was always talking about his Family and how much he adored them. He had the best staff, all of which none can compare. Although he will be deeply missed, I am so glad he is where he is suppose to be, at home and free of his Earthly pain. He will be deeply missed by so many. Thank you for all you have given me and my family. I know He is watching over his family.

"Dr. Zenger was the most dedicated, caring, & modest physician we knew. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and working with staff members. The world would be a better place with more like him..".

Dr. Zenger was my pulmonologist since 2003, and was a very caring physician. True, I stumped him with my diagnosis at first, but we got to the bottom of it. His bedside manner was impeccable, and I will miss him terribly. I know I will see him again with Heavenly Father. May the Good Lord Bless and Keep you, Dr. Z!
