Russell Benjamin Obituary
Ankeny - Russell Angelo Benjamin 53, of Ankeny, IA passed away on May 28th, 2019 at Lake Thunderhead in Unionville, MO. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday June 1st, at the Ankeny First United Methodist Church (206 S.W. Walnut). A visitation will be held from 4 - 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 31st at the Ankeny First United Methodist Church.
He worked at Technical Services Inc. in Ames as a foreman for most of his career. He also enjoyed working on projects at Huber Grading.
Russell is survived by his wife of 29 years, Lisa; 2 children, Jessica (Blake) Mikesell, John Benjamin (Lauren Benson), mother Laura Benjamin, Sisters Lori (Clel) Herr, and LeAnna (Doug) Hoyt; LaRon (Ron) Garlock and many treasured nieces and nephews. He is reunited in heaven with his father Ronald Benjamin and the family pet Emma Jean.

I'll never forget his tenacity in the wrestling room or on the matt. He was always one of the first ones to practice, and his sweet smile and nature were so genuine. My condolences.

Years ago Russell's dad, Ron loaned our family his speed boat when we vacationed at Clear Lake. It was the highlight of our trips. Our dad, Bill Duff, worked at the DM Register and Tribune with Ron. I was saddened to see that this fine young man had died much too young. Knowing the graciousness of his dad and mom, and reading his obituary and remembrances of friends, I can tell the kind of good man, Russell was , and that he will be greatly missed.
May God bless you in your sorrow and happiness in your memories. Your beloved Russell will always live in your hearts.

Lisa, Laura, Jessie, John and all of Russ' family,
I am still numb and in shock after hearing about Russ' death. Too young, too soon!
We loved Russ' smile that was always presentt and his fun loving spirit with John and his friends.
Paul is too far away to pay his respects, but he wanted you to know how he appreciated Russ helping him when others were squirting him at a sleepover. It seems like a small thing, but Paul admired Russ' firmness without being too strict.
Paul called him a "stand up" man. We agree wholeheartedly.
I am praying for all of you in this most difficult time!

I had the honor of working for Russ many years ago. He's always been someone I have looked up to and aspired to be like in my own career. His work ethic and willingness to help others was second to none. He will be missed, but not forgotten. RIP buddy.
