Dr. Lowell B. Johnston

Urbandale - Dr. Lowell B. Johnson, DVM, 90, passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2018.

He was born on September 29th, 1928 near Laurens, Iowa to G.W.E. & Sylvia (Weeks) Johnson. Lowell attended Iowa State University and was a member of the Acacia Fraternity and ROTC. He married Lois Jean Youngblood in 1951, served in the Air Force and obtained the rank of Captain. He then returned to ISU and earned his DVM Degree in 1959. He was a partner in a mixed animal practice in Garner, Iowa until 1982 when he joined the USDA in Washington, DC. He and Jean moved to Johnston, Iowa in 1989 and Lowell retired from the USDA in 1991. They moved into Deerfield Retirement Community in 2005 and continued to enjoy many years of community involvement, travel, and attending ISU Athletic and Alumni events.

Lowell was a Mason, Shriner, Chanter, and Jester and had lifetime memberships to the American Legion, AVMA, IVMA, and the ISU Alumni Association. He was also a member of the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association. He was a past Lion and Rotary member along with being a Volunteer Fireman for over 20 years.

He is survived by his wife Jean, sons Kent (Sara) & Jay (Sabrina) and a grandson Benjamin. For additional information on Lowell's life and career go to:
