Richard Harold Pinegar, 84, of Clive, formerly of West Des Moines, Urbandale and Windsor Heights, passed from this life on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 11, at First Church of the Open Bible, located at 2200 Beaver Avenue in Des Moines, of which he was a member. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

Richard was born on January 30, 1927 in Newton, IA, to Harold Ernest and Daisy Ladona Clark Pinegar. He was a navy veteran of World War II. On September 28, 1946, Richard married Lila Rose Young in Des Moines and their marriage was blessed with two children. Richard was formerly employed with Meredith Publishing for nearly 48 years. He was also employed part-time with The Des Moines Register for nearly 20 years. Richard was a member of the V.F.W. Beaverdale Post 9127 and loved looking at and shopping for antiques, especially adding to his favorite collection of Shirley Temple memorabilia. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 65 years, Lila Pinegar of Clive; son, Edwin LeRoy Pinegar of Mount Prospect, IL; daughter, Roberta Theo "Bobbi" Riley of Urbandale; one brother, Frankie Joe Pinegar of Granger; sister, Sylvia Kinney of Grimes; three grandchildren, three great-granddaughters; and one great-grandson. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jimmy Lee Pinegar; and one sister, Annabella June Chambers.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, at Iles Funeral Homes, Westover Chapel in Des Moines.
