Barry Michael McGriff was born on April 27, 1944 to Helen (Gilmore) and Elry "Mac" McGriff in Des Moines. He passed away peacefully on his birthday, surrounded by his family's love and presence on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Genesis Senior Living Center after spending just one week there.
Barry loved all animals - especially cats. He would volunteer at the ARL and walk the dogs. Barry loved the Arts. He studied at the Art Institute of Milwaukee and at the Art Institute of Kansas City, MO. He especially loved the time he shared with his family and friends. Barry had a passion for dancing which was expressed through him being a dance instructor at Arthur Murray Dance Studio. Barry also utilized his outgoing personable skills as a sales associate at JC Penny's for 15 years.
Those left to cherish his memory are his brother, Jerry (Diana) McGriff; nieces, Tammy (Mick) Moylan, Joleen (Greg Johnson) McGriff and Pammy (Dallas) Dudley; nephews, Pat (Norma) McGriff and Kevin McGriff; and other extended family and beloved friends. He will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Richard "Pat" McGriff and niece, Debbie McGriff.
Family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street with Celebration of Life Service to begin at 10:00 a.m.
Memorial contributions may be directed to ARL Southridge in memory of Barry.
