David Schreurs Obituary

David Schreurs

Clive - David John Schreurs passed away March 3, 2018, following a brief illness. He was 70 years old.

David, who was known as Dave to his family and numerous friends, was born January 6, 1948, in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Des Moines Roosevelt High School in 1960 and earned an Actuarial Science Degree from Drake University in 1970. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve before building a successful real estate career in the Des Moines area. He also owned and operated Dave's Tax Service for 46 years and was a tireless advocate for both his real estate and tax clients - many of whom became close friends with him over the years.

Dave's family was the centerpiece of his life. He and his "lovely, lovely wife", Audrey, recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. He was a devoted and loving father, and his bright smile beamed as he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Dave was a genuine and caring man who made lasting impressions on those who were fortunate enough to know him. He was the consummate

big brother, always offering a helpful spirit and sage advice to his siblings.

Dave's hobbies included fishing trips to Canada, Hawkeye sporting events, bowling, slow-pitch softball and golfing with his buddies at Hillcrest Country Club. He was a lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Dodgers.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey; children, Mike (Shanna) Schreurs and Angie (Jason) Soliday; brothers, JD (Kris) Schreurs, Steve (Natalia) Halterman, and Tom (Heather) Halterman; sister Kris (Lynn) Siemer; and grandchildren, Zach, Ella, Addi, and Lily. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred (Grandquist) Halterman and Marvin Schreurs; and brother Marv Schreurs.

A celebration of life service will be held on March 24, 2018, from 2:00-4:00PM at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory in Urbandale, Iowa. Donations may be made in Dave's memory to Make-A-Wish Iowa at http://site.wish.org/goto/schreurs.

I came to know Dave 7 years ago when he started doing my taxes. Eventhough I only saw Dave once a year, I always looked forward to seeing his cheerful smile and visiting with him. He was as genuine as they came! I will miss you Dave! My thoughts and prayers are with his family. I am so truly sorry for your loss.

We are so sorry to learn that Dave has passed. He was a wonderful human being. Dave figured our taxes for 25 years, helped us sell 3 houses and was my baseball coach during my teenage years. A story that I would like to relate occurred during this time as my coach with the Orioles. I was 15 and slated to pitch that day. Before the game Dave was warming me up and I told him that I had been toying around with a knuckle ball. After a dozen or so pitches I noticed this smile on his face and he is chuckling saying the ball was moving. He was elated. I felt great because my effort was being acknowledged by the master. This small interaction in this tiny sliver of time still makes me smile. I thank Dave for that.

Thank you cousin Dave for all your sage counsel and timeless wit. I know Linda and Doug are in Heaven to greet you & hear God say well done good and faithful servant for a life well lived and cut short too soon. I will always remember you pushing Doug around Methodist hospital in his wheelchair and you two cracking jokes and when I last saw you in ICU & said what's going on with u & u said well they say I had a heart attack in the ER. My deepest condolences to Audrey, Angie, Mike & family, Tommy and Steve, et al . Dave was most blessed with such a terrific family and I pray God comforts all of you in this time of sorrow over the loss of a great, great man!!
