The first words Stan Hess said to me at Drake were,
"I don't think you know what you're doing." He was right and things got better from there. It was a pleasure to be instructed and inspired by someone who absolutely loved what he was doing. I haven't seen him in 50 years but the professionalism he inspired has enriched my life. My condolences to the family. He will be missed.

Stan was a great inspiration to myself and countless Drake alumni and the community . For myself. he was someone who said it like it was. That will always make him have my respect. His art in Des Moines was something all people would look at and enjoy, that is his tribute.
