Don Duffield Obituary

Don Forrest Duffield, 78, of Weatherford died peacefully at home Saturday, May 4, 2013. Memorial service: 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 917 Lamar St., Fort Worth. Private inurnment: Will take place at a later date in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas. Memorials: Contributions may be made to the St. Andrews Memorial Fund, 917 Lamar St., Fort Worth, Texas 76102; Friends of the Weatherford Public Library, Box 162, Weatherford, Texas 76086; or the charity of choice. Mr. Duffield was born Feb. 9, 1935, in Pauls Valley, Okla., to Forrest and Christine Bennett Duffield. He graduated from Pauls Valley High School in 1953 and from University of Oklahoma in 1957, with a BBA degree in finance. He attended the United States Navy officer candidate school in Newport, R.I. Active duty took him to San Diego, Calif., and he achieved the rank of commander during his long and successful career in the U.S. Naval Reserve. On April 11, 1958, in Vinita, Okla., Mr. Duffield married Carole Ann McMillan. After his tour of duty, he began a 44-year-career in the commercial banking industry. The Duffields moved to Weatherford in 1994, when Mr. Duffield joined First National Bank, where he served as president, CEO and vice chairman of the board for 11 years. Upon retirement from First National, he became a banking consultant for two years and left consulting to enjoy family and domestic and foreign travel. Mr. Duffield participated in many church and community activities as well as being active in the Texas Bankers Association, Kappa Alpha Order and National Bankers Association. He served as chairman of the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce and was a past president of the Weatherford Public Library board. Mr. Duffield was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors: His wife of 55 years, Carole, of Weatherford; daughters, Anne Sutherland and husband, Bruce, of Dallas and Donna McGee and husband, Brent, of Wetumka, Okla.; brother, Nathaniel Duffield and wife, Victoria, of Houston; sister, Joan Lee of Dallas; sister-in-law, Nancy Ahrens, and brother-in-law, Bob Ahrens, both of Arlington Heights, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
