Ceasar Belser Obituary

Ceasar Edward Belser Jr. passed away from lung cancer into the presence of Jesus at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 5, 2016, in Hurst. Memorial service: 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at Gateway Church, 7501 Davis Blvd., North Richland Hills. Ceaser was born in Montgomery, Ala., and attended St. Jude Educational Institute, Alabama State Laboratory High School and graduated from Carver High School with a football scholarship in 1962 and enrolled in college at Arkansas AM&N College. Before graduating with a bachelor's degree in physical health and science education in 1965, he married Evelyn Johnson and to this union a beautiful baby girl was born, Cecilia Belser, and later a bouncing baby boy, Jason Belser. Ceasar had a nine-year career with the AFL, NFL, and CFL, from 1968 to 1974, with the highlights of his career playing for the Kansas City Chiefs, 1969-70, in Super Bowl IV. After his professional football career he was hired on with Southwestern Bell Yellow Pages and pioneered his way from sales to training to division management where he routinely fought racism and discrimination from his colleagues. He eventually went back to his passion, selling, becoming top salesman and winning the "Circle of Excellence" awards the last 12 of his 25 years of service. Ceasar and Lisa Byrd met on the Fourth of July 1988, and they would wed in 1992 in South Lake Tahoe, Calif. Ceasar remained true to his upbringing and continued to maintain a deep devotion to his Lord and Savior. Ceasar and Lisa became committed and active members of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Arlington, for 10 years and then in 2010 moving to Hurst, they became faithful members at Gateway Church in North Richland Hills where he, Lisa and their beloved shihtzu named Moses, continued to enjoy his life of retirement and appreciate family and friends, often traveling attending reunions and get-togethers. After retiring in 2000 Ceasar started working for two other Yellow Pages companies as general sales manager eventually started his own landscaping business working for himself. He also worked for Transportation Services (Rezenberger Inc.) and did substitute school teaching in the Fort Worth ISD. Ceasar passionately loved working outside with his bare hands making beauty all around him. His life's joy included golf, watching westerns, prison ministry, traveling, music-jazz and politics, and he loved sports in general, especially football. Ceasar loved good ol' soul food where he found comfort and friends in his weekly visits to see Mike, the owner of Paris Coffee Shop. He had a great sense of humor that was contagious, articulate in the way he spoke and dressed, wise, intelligent and loving. Ceasar was very supportive and proud of his children, Cecilia and Jason. Whenever Granddaddy Cez made the yearly visit to see his grandchildren, Sajon and Malaka, he always had to brag how well they were doing in their sports and academics. Ceasar was preceded in death by his parents, Caesar Edward Belser and Frances Belser; grandparents; aunts; uncles; and cousins. Survivors: Ceasar is survived by his loving wife of almost 28 years, Lisa Byrd Belser; son, Jason (Sarita) Belser of Ashburn, Va.; daughter, Cecilia (Paris) Belser-Patton of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren, Sajon and Malaka Belser; sister, Carolyn Belser of Litchfield Park, Ariz.; and a large loving extended family.

I met Ceasar when we both worked at SBC. We were managers together and traveled on the same assignments many times. Our families came to know each other in the early years. After retirement we kept in touch and visited when we were in the area. He was a professional and a friend. We were in contact two months prior to his transition where he spoke about his love for his family.
My family and I will miss him greatly.
We are praying for the entire Belser family

To Lisa and the family, my condolences. I met Caesar in 1981. He was my trainer in St. Louis. I thought I was good but he made me better, not just for the job but for life. He taught me the value of being serious, tough minded and not taking anything for granted. These are lessons that have serve me well. He was a great mentor.

As a boy in Kansas City, I watched Caesar tear it up with the Chiefs. Imagine the thrill when I was fortunate enough to work with him at SWB. I was junior to Caesar, yet he always treated me with kindness and respect. He was a gentleman, a professional, always made it look easy and never let on that he was fighting any adversity. God Bless Caesar and my condolences to his friends and family.

I met Ceaser in 1970Just as both he and I were starting our Sales Careers, in the early 1980's when he was moving to Dallas he gave me a good bye present by coming to the dealership where I worked and buying a new car from me. We stay in touch off and on over the years and he was a wonderful person and a good friend and I'm sorry to see him leave us, like a piece of me was pulled from me. Will miss you my brother, GOD BLESS.
