Gerald DiVelbiss Obituary

DiVELBISS Gerald M. DiVelbiss, age 75, of Massillon, OH, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2005 in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Mansfield, OH on April 13, 1930 to the late Virgil and Glenys DiVelbiss, he was a 1948 graduate of Canton McKinley High School and went to serve his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War earning the rank of Sergeant. He was self employed as a grocer for many years and was a past member of Lions Club, Grocers Association and First Christian Church. Gerald was a hard working man and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandpa and friend. Survivors include his wife, Mary DiVelbiss of the home and to whom he was married 53 years; son, John (Pat) DiVelbiss of Columbus; daughter, Deborah Lanham of Massillon; seven grandchildren, Jaclyn (Dave), Larry (Rachael), John R., Mande, Michael, Joy and Mark; three great-grandchildren, Joshua, Katelynn and Hannah; two sisters, Susan (Ted) Bryant of South Euclid, OH and Sally (Bob) Plesnicher of FL. In honoring his wishes, Gerald's body will be cremated and a burial of ashes will take place at a future date in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2005 in First Christian Church, 2600 Cleveland Avenue NW, Canton, to celebrate his memory. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to First Christian Church Building Fund.

As a distant cousin of Gerald I am saddened by your loss. I have been doing Family History research for the Gatton family of which the Divelbiss family is a part of.
