Catherine Saylor Obituary

Saylor Catherine Anne Caseley Saylor, age 86, died Thursday, February 26, 2015, in Cape Canaveral, Florida. Born September 18, 1928 in Jackson, Ohio. Predeceased by parents Cyrus W. and Catherine Williams Caseley, and two sisters Mary Caseley Craig and Elizabeth Caseley Smith. Graduated from Jackson High School in 1946 and The Ohio State University College of Nursing in 1952. She married Mark L. Saylor, MD on May 25, 1952 and they were blessed with four children, Mark Evan (Annette Flory) Saylor, Catherine Saylor (Richard G.) Cheney and Sarah Saylor (Kurtis D. Schrumpf). David Zeph Saylor, MD, their second child, was killed in an auto accident on October 1, 1979. Mark and Anne lived in Upper Arlington, Ohio for over 50 years, rearing their children and devoting their time and effort to the community. Many hours and years were spent constructing their family genealogy which was placed in print in 2008-09. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church until becoming a Florida resident in 2006. Anne was a Life Member of OSU Alumni Association, Childhood League and Twig 107 of Children's Hospital, as well as The Welsh Society of Central Ohio. Her life was filled with love for her dear husband, their children and six grandchildren, Catherine Cheney (Justin) Wise, Megan Mariah Saylor, Kyle David Schrumpf, Benjamin Evan Saylor, Michael David Cheney and Tyler Andrew Schrumpf. She is survived by four nieces and one nephew and their families, Jay and Catherine Craig Kirby, David and Jeanne Smith Baxter, James and T.J. Smith, Frank and Mary Anne Craig Billingsley, and Michael and Mary Jill Smith Aleshire. All of her family and friends looked forward to her bountiful table on the 4th of July and Holiday events. She was always available for counsel in both nursing and just living. Her forthright opinions were respected and it was said "If you don't want to know the truth, don't ask Auntie Anne!" Local service will be provided by Beckman, Williamson Funeral Home in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Graveside service and interment will be held at Union Grove Cemetery in Canal Winchester, under the direction of DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, Canal Winchester, at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice or The David Zeph Saylor Memorial Award, c/o OSU Endowment Fund, Riverwatch Tower, Suite B, 1480 West Lane Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43221 in Catherine's memory. My "mom away from home" always made me feel like family. Mrs. Saylor was always loving and warm, making the 600 miles away from my family much more tolerable. The consumate hostess, her home always felt welcome and her cheese grits were the yummiest. She raised some terrific kids who will always be close to my heart.
