Carolyn Adamshick Obituary

Adamshick Carolyn Marie (Vande Kerkhoff) Adamshick died July 17, 2015 at Mt. Carmel West Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Born to Herman Joseph and Dorothy Felicia (Wiot) Vande Kerkhoff on Easter Sunday, March 26, 1932 at Mercy Catholic Hospital in Tiffin, Ohio, Carolyn was the eldest of four children, with three younger brothers - James C., Herman J., and Paul R. (deceased). Carolyn attended St. Joseph Catholic Grade school and graduated from Calvert Catholic High School, both in Tiffin. She was a 1954 graduate of Mary Manse Catholic Women's College in Toledo, majoring in Music Education, and taught music for four years at Maumee Valley Country Day School. Carolyn married Donald R. Adamshick, a native of Toledo, Ohio, on August 10, 1957. In 1962 they moved their growing family to Columbus, Ohio, where Donald was a psychologist at the Ohio State School for the Blind and Ohio School for the Deaf. Carolyn was active in Columbus St. Anthony of Padua Parish as a member of the Women's Club, and organist for weekly Sunday Masses, weddings and funerals, for thirty years. She accompanied the St. Anthony Grade School and St. Francis DeSales High School Glee Clubs, and provided service music for Catholic women's retreats at St. Therese's Shrine in Columbus. In 2009 she became a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, and joined their Christian Mothers Society chapter. Carolyn is survived by five children, Mary Helen Colleli (Mark) and grandchildren Sean, Scott, Luke, Laura and Christopher of Columbus, Ohio; Michael Raymond (Laurie) and granddaughter Asia of Honolulu, Hawaii; Margaret Anne Shield (Robert) and grandchildren Maile, Miranda and Robert of Columbus, Ohio; Elizabeth Therese Adamshick (Patrick Sullivan and Katie Sullivan) of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; and Jane Katherine Kidder (John) and granddaughter Felicia, of Galena, Ohio, cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her brother Paul, Carolyn is predeceased by her husband Donald, their infant son Anthony Gerard Joseph, and granddaughter Angela Felicia Mary Colleli. Carolyn was a devout lifelong Catholic, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, a beloved friend to her college chums and neighbors, an avid reader and letter-writer, a "doodling" artist, an expert crossword puzzle enthusiast, a generous contributor to several charities benefitting the poor, and a courageous, outspoken witness for the unborn. Family will receive friends Monday, July 27, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Rd., Columbus, with the Rosary prayed at both visitation times. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 584 West Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio. Interment immediately following at Resurrection Cemetery, with luncheon served afterward at Holy Family. Donations in Carolyn's name can be made to the Holy Family Parish Christian Mothers Society, Pregnancy Decision Health Centers (PDHC), and the Brian Muha Foundation. Liz,
Mike and families, I was in the process of looking you up, when I came across this sad news. I will always remember fondly the hospitality your mom and dad showed me during to and fro visits from school and the great impact they both had on your lives. Their humor and warmth is residing in their children, as well as their "Catholic" values of faith and caring for the world around us. You reached out to me when my dad died all those years ago, I would be glad to do the same. Contact me if you are able.

Liz, I remember the times we had at the OSU Newman Center, a lot of changes and events happened during those wild and wooly times. I remember being at your wedding ceremony and reception in October 1993. I'm sorry to hear about your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you. May God help you all thru this.

To all,
Remembering your mom at Mary Manse College. Her laugh was infectious! Just think, she grew up in Tiffin, right around the corner from Gene. Small world. Do you kids recall coming to Tiffin, and going to St. Joe's festival with our kids, Therese, Martin, and Mary? So many happy memories of days gone by. God bless us all.
Cheers, Mary C. and Gene Phillips

My dear, sweet, wonderful mother. Thank you for the gift of life. Thank you and Dad for the gift of your Catholic faith. Thank you for your courageous witness on behalf of mothers and fathers in unintended pregnancies, and their precious babies. Thank you for your unwavering support of us, your children. Thank you for opening your loving heart to our spouses and children - no one could have a better mother-in-law or grandma. Thank you for showing us how to love, how to forgive, how to trust. Thank you for your continued prayers for all of us...and thank you for praying us Home. Yes, we're glad we're here, and yes, we know we're loved!
