Joyce Bowen Obituary
Joyce Elaine (Mahr) Bowen, age 85, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 28, 2017. Beloved wife, mother, and friend. Preceded in death by husband, Lewis O. Mahr; parents, Alvin A. Freeman and Esther L. Wendell Freeman; infant daughter, Lynn; son David L. Mahr; brothers, Gene Freeman and Jack Freeman; sister-in-law, Dorothy Freeman; step-daughters, Brenda Holman, and Pauline Kerr; and step-son, Robert A. Mahr. Survived by husband, Howard Bowen; children, Jane Garrett (Norm), Christina Meeks (Floyd), and Sheila Luke (Dan), daughter-in-law, Andrea Mahr-Breedlove; step-son, Cliff Mahr (Kay); six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many other extended family members as well as dear friends, Gail Hickman and Sally Webber. Joyce retired from the former Ohio State Bank in 1988 after 20 years of dedicated service. Member of the Gahanna Free Will Baptist Church, Marion Eagles #337, VFW Post 4719 Women's Auxiliary as Life Member and Past President. She was also a Charter Member and Past Vice President of the American Legion #797 Auxiliary in Gahanna, Ohio. As a member of Gahanna Historical Society she was the annual Flea Market chairperson for 13 years. Due to her love of aviation she was a founding member of the Historical Aircraft Squadron Inc. in Lancaster, Ohio. During the 1960's Joyce and Lou were active in the Marion Cadet Drum and Bugle Corps and fund raising activities. A Celebration of Life will be held 12 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the Gahanna Free Will Baptist Church, 3868 N. Stygler Road, Gahanna, Ohio. Please come to share your fond memories of your time with Joyce. Private inurnment at Mifflin Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joyce's memory can be made to the Gahanna Free Will Baptist Church. To share memories and condolences, please visit www.schoedinger.com.
