Kathryn Glasnap Obituary

Glasnap, Kathryn "Kathy" M.

(September 23, 1948 -

August 28, 2015)

Kathryn "Kathy" M. Glasnap, 66, a well-known Door County artist passed away at Door County Memorial Hospital on Friday, Aug. 28, 2015. She was born in Appleton, WI, the daughter of the late Carl and Marcie Glasnap.

Kathy began drawing and painting at an early age and after her graduation from Xavier High School, launched her successful career as a full time painter of watercolors and acrylics. She attended many art shows, selling her paintings all around the United States. On weekends with more than one show, Kathy's friends would help with the displays. She moved to Door County in 1995 and opened her own gallery, where she thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to meet new people and make lasting friends.

Kathy leaves a legion of friends, employees and collectors who will miss her greatly. She was preceded in death by her parents, relatives and friends.

Because Kathy always loved time spent with friends visiting over a meal, it was her wish that a memorial buffet luncheon be held. The luncheon will be on Thursday, Sept. 10th, at 11:30 to 3 at Alexander's Restaurant in Fish Creek.

In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to a Door County charity of your choice.

Thank you to Dr. Hogan and Dr. Rebhan for their care over the years and to the Door County Memorial Hospital, especially the ICU for their compassion and great care. Kathy appreciated the kindnesses she received from the staff at Golden Living Center-Dorchester and Anna's Healthcare over the last 11 months and the special help she received from the Physical and Occupation Therapy staff.

One of Kathy's thoughts about her hereafter was, "I will finally have my own personal chef."

So sorry for the loss of Kathy. We first visited her studio in July 2008, bought two of her works and returned to Montgomery, AL. We came back to her place a few years later and then again in early August of 2015, each time purchasing one more of her works. All hang proudly in our home. She was a friendly and kind soul who will be an asset to all the artists who reside in the heavenly realm.

So enjoyed Kathy during many Art Fair years in Racine and many Gallery visits. Loved her work and her.

We could not wait to visit with Kathy at her shop when we visited Door County every August. We have many of her prints and cards, and many more as gifts. We are saddened by her loss to the art world, but also our loss that there will be no more new "Fred and Ethel" searches on her new productions...

You have my deepest sympathy on your immeasurable loss. Life is so short and those we love are gone from our lives too quickly. God's promise to empty the grave in the near future is found at Hosea 13:14. May the God of loyal love comfort you during your time of sorrow. Irene A.

My friend Kathy is at peace. Although miles apart for years, since a move from Milw, to Atlanta, and now Palm Springs, Kathy always stayed in touch and was always open to helping you. Whenever I went to Wisconsin to visit, I got a chance to visit her at her Gallery up north. Got to know Kathy thru a friend in the early 70's. All of us helped her in the early days with her traveling "Art Shows" and always, always, had a good time traveling together with friends. She was so wonderful and happy to be around. I'll always remember her dinner parties with fabulous desserts that she had and will never forget the good times with friends she always brought together.

Kathy was a dear friend....we knew her from the 1970's and have a lot of her early work. Every time we came up to Door County we would stop and see her...and often go out to eat. Unfortunately the last time we saw her she wasn't feeling good so she had to cancel...but she said " there will be a next time".....and hopefully there will be ... But just not on this earth. This morning we were just talking about Kathy's birthday coming up....and then we got the sad heartbreaking news that Kathy was gone. She was so special to so many. We will always remember you dear friend. Jack Balzer and Greg Gowdy
