It was with disbelief that we learned tonight of Sam's death. Sam and I worked as young lawyers in the Attorney General's office and with our wives shared that memorable experience of expecting a first child. Susie and I treasure those wonderful times when the four of us would get together and laugh. I can hear Sam in that drawling voice telling stories about peanuts. We had such fun. After Sam and Mary Earl went to Dothan and we went to Birmingham we rarely got to see each other but when we did we picked up where we last left off. We will so miss Sam. Mary Earl, we love you all.

To Sam's family and to Celeste - I was very sad to hear of Sam's passing. I found out this morning. Mr. Sam had been Mom's attorney and friend as long as I remember. Sam's fighting spirit in facing his illness gave my mother, Becky Orander, some fight toward the end of her own battle with Cancer. She passed this past October 27. Mom always told me what a wonderful man she thought Mr. Sam was. She told me I could count on him. It is so sad we have to lose such wonderful, attentive, and loving people. My thoughts are with you during your difficult journey ahead.

I met Sam in the 90's . Had heard so many good things about his work ethics and his character. He stood tall as a leader, as a lawyer, as a kind human being. How wonderful it would be for all to be more like Sam as he was a truly great person. God bless his family and give strength and comfort to each of you in the times ahead.

I first met Sam during the 1974 Senate campaign and proudly worked with him in that endeavor. As a result I was honored to serve as a Senate page for some of his alloted weeks and learned about the legislative process, a true education. Sam was a wise and patient mentor and was supportive to our family when my father passed away. Later, he provided me with sage counsel and I could count on his advice. Regrettably we lost touch through the years and I am saddened of this news. I pray for his surviving family and friends that what he left us has made us better and we can rejoice that today Heaven is brighter and Sam is in the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father.

I hired Sam 4 years ago with only a FIVE dollar bill, we laugh and I told him if I stayed in Dothan I would probablly need him. He told me he didn't think he was that cheap..I also painted birdhouses for his sweet wife and oh how he loved her. Sam was a great man, funny, serious and someone you could always look up to. I am truly sorry for his family & friends because they have lost a wonderful man. I know he is heaven now laughing & talking to God. Love, Jan & Charlie Faucett Lawrenceville, Ga
