Fred "Fritz" Scharff
Nov. 29, 1942 - Feb. 14, 2014
Resident of Danville
Fred "Fritz" Scharff passed away on Friday, February 14th after a more than three-year battle with lung cancer.
Fritz was born in Dayton, Ohio and moved to San Francisco in 1956 and he graduated from Riordan High School. He moved to Danville in 1976 where he raised his family and became heavily involved in the Mustang Soccer Club. Fritz had a 30-year career in the telecommunications industry and retired in 1992. He continued to coach soccer until 2010. When not on the soccer field he could be found with his good friends on the golf course.
Fritz is survived by his loving wife, Denise; devoted daughters Kirsten Madsen (David) of Walnut Creek and Ashley Iorio (Michael) of Danville and beautiful granddaughters, Kendall Madsen, Lauren Iorio and Leslie Iorio. He is also survived by his sister, Marianne Bickford (Richard) of Penryn and his brother, Robert Scharff (Lorraine) of Santa Rosa.
The impact he had on so many lives, especially on the soccer field, will be remembered for years to come. His fun-loving and generous spirit will be missed by all who knew him.
Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Mass on Friday, February 21 at Noon at St. Isidore's Church in Danville. A reception will follow at the Cardelli Center across the street from the church.

My heart breaks for cancer to take another lovely life and member of our community. Me and my family have such fond memories of Fritz on and off the soccer field. He taught lessons in life not just soccer. My dad Don passed from cancer in 2011, May they meet again in afterlife and talk soccer once again. Loveland hugs to your family. May time be swift in healing. Denise strength love in your
battle.

Sending heart felt condolences to Denise, Kirsten, and Ashley. I remember when you all came to visit your Aunt Sue Kasle in the house in Woodside. He was a sweet man and a popular coach (he coached my friends' kids in soccer). I'm so sorry for your loss. May he rest in peace.

Fritz coached our daughter for her Al Caffodio soccer career and was a memorable and positive influence in those formative years of her life. Thanks, Fritz, for all of the hours you devoted to her and to the youth in Danville...you have left your mark! We are thinking of you, Denise, Ashley and Kirsten, and know that you have wonderful memories of this man who shared so much with his community. Chris and Larry Jones

I worked alongside Fred when we were
Pacific Bell Telephone PBX Foreman,In downtown San Francisco ( north of market) . In the days ( 70's and 80's )when big buildings were rising like mushrooms and we were the only telephone company in town. Fred's crew put the huge majority of telephones in the embarcadero center. A monumental task . He worked so hard that he actually slept on the carpet as business's moved in making sure his crew had provided telephone service for our customers come Monday morning. Freddie was always full of energy ,life, laughter and a little bit of mischef . We had many a day of laughter and we spoke of the pride we felt in providing telephone service for so many under stressful conditions years after. We were in the same foxhole so to speak. Rest in Peace Freddie I hope to see you on the other side one day and have a couple of beers. God love you.

He was always so appropriate.Gene and I are so sorry for your loss he will certainly be missed. Our condolences to Denise, Kirsten, Ashley and their families.Sincerely Gene and Callie Sbarbaro

We extend our condolences to Denise and the rest of your family. We hope you will all find peace in the goodness of the man you called husband and father.
