Bill Lassell Obituary

Former Resident of Lafayette Born February 2, 1965, San Mateo, CA, Died January 23, 2009, Oakland CA. Bill died at home in his sleep of an aneurysm. To his friends and family his death appeared both sudden and peaceful. Bill was a California native, raised in Lafayette. He received his bachelor's in Social Sciences and Theatre from Humboldt State University in 1991. He continued his education in art through Peralta and Contra Costa Colleges. He was an artist and writer. He worked in film, clay, paint, and glass. His writing was centered in fiction and satire. He was self taught in a wide range of subjects, driven by an intensely curious, scientific, and analytical mind. He was a warm friend with an easy manner and steady wit. He was an avid golfer and took an active interest in local history and environmental resources. He was a beloved member of both the Alameda and the Contra Costa County community. His death was preceded in 2005 by his father's; William R. Lassell. The two were very close. Bill A. is survived by his family: mother, Karen Lassell, sister, Susan Lassell, loving companion Susannah Israel, and her daughter Sterling Israel. Bill we love you and miss you sorely.

Bill, I just can't believe you are gone. It was always nice to see you at Clay People and to have you over to work on our glass projects. It makes me realize how precious life and friendship are. My deepest sympathy to all who will miss you.

Bill, you were my very first friend when I moved to California. We shared good times together and later on grew apart, but I always considered you a close friend. I will miss you and you will be missed by all. Love you always.
