John Seaborn Obituary

JOHN K. SEABORN Born at Hat Creek, California in 1911 to Jane and Fred Seaborn, died December 4, 2006 in Oakland, California. A long time resident of Alameda and Oakland, John had a very strong character. He was a skilled tugboat pilot and the owner of Seaborn Towing Service. He had a number of business interests over the years from machine shops to fishing boats, oil exploration and coastal towing. However, most of his career was spent towing barges on the San Francisco Bay and surrounding waterways. He was a graduate of Vallejo High school and attended diesel engineering school. While still attending high school, John began a successful hydroplane racing career. He won the West Coast Championship and placed 3rd in the nationals held in Connecticut. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Order of the Alameda Masonic Lodge. John is survived by his wife of 38 years, Ellen Seaborn, daughter Heather Chagaris, son Gary (Sylvia) Seaborn; grandchildren Scott Seaborn, Stuart (Ximena) Seaborn, Jeff (Wendy) Chagaris, Melissa (Gus) Walston and great-grandson, John Seaborn. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by: His mother and father, brothers Fred and Elmer Seaborn and children Jo Ann and Johnny Seaborn. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2006 at the Park Boulevard Presbyterian Church, 4101 Park Boulevard, Oakland, CA. at 2:00 p.m. Luncheon Reception following the services.
