Marcella Walker Obituary

Marcella May Willis Walker
May 13, 1922 - Feb 17, 2014
Resident of Walnut Creek
Mourning the loss of Marcella is her loving husband Scott Walker, her devoted children Don Willis, Nancy West and Larry Willis. Also grieving are her beloved grandchildren Lora, Lindsay and Amy May, as well as her adoring great grandchildren Ian and Ada.
Born to Mavis and Henry May in Oakland, California she attended Oakland public schools through high school and showed considerable skills as a dancer. She began taking ice skating lessons in her teens and by the early 1940's she partnered with James Lochead and competed in Ice Dance all over the United States. Marcella and James won the US championships in 1943 and 1944 as well as several other metals. While competitively skating until 1947 she married Roger Willis in 1942 and decided to start a family in 1948. Soon after, she began judging figure skating competitions and eventually judged the 1972 Olympics in Sapporo, Japan and World Championships in Moscow, Russia and many other events.
After divorcing Roger in 2000, four years later Marcella found the love of her life in Scott Walker, married and were idyllically happy until she began showing signs of Alzheimer's disease in 2010. She declined steadily and passed peacefully at age 91. Marcella will be missed by so many lives she had touched.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to USFS Memorial Fund, Our Saviors Lutheran Church or Vitas Innovative Hospice Care. A memorial service will be held at: Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 1035 Carol Lane, Lafayette, CA 94549 on March 29th, 2014 at 2pm.
